RoughRiders Defenseman Set to Join Purple Knights this Fall

NORWALK, CT -- Nico Giannetti, a defenseman for the Connecticut RoughRiders, has committed to Saint Michael's College for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Alexandria, VA spent two seasons with RoughRiders, and unfortunately had this current campaign cut short due to an injury. However, looking back on his overall time in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Giannetti finished eight assists in an even 50 career games played.

“Nico has continued a steady path of improvement dating back to last season," said RoughRiders head coach and general manager Eric Lind. "Nico has a solid first pass from the defensive zone, scanning for breakout options and moves up nicely into the neutral zone. He is very dedicated both on and off the ice in refining his game all year long.”

Gianetti goes in the books as the 20th player in league history to choose the Purple Knights program, and the 1st from the current 2021-22 season. Overall, St. Michael's has now committed at least one player in eight of the nine seasons since the EHL was formed.
