Apple Core Forward Set to Join Hawks this Fall

BREWSTER, NY -- John Myers, a forward for the New York Apple Core, has committed to Saint Anselm College for the fall of 2022.

The '02 native of White Plains, NY is in his 2nd season with the Apple Core, and through 78 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Myers has tallied 17 goals and 20 assists to his credit.

"We are very proud of John and are looking forward to watching his game continue to grow," said Apple Core interim head coach Joe Wegwerth. "John has taken a huge step as a player and person this year and become extremely reliable for us. The entire Apple Core family would like to congratulate both John and his family on this tremendous achievement.”

Despite having a year of junior eligibility still remaining, Myers feels ready to make the jump to the next level this upcoming fall. In doing so, he joins a strong class of incoming freshmen at St. A's, that includes four other EHL players from four different EHL teams.

This fall, Myers will become new teammates with Matt Herrick of the New Jersey 87sWill Rosen of Team MarylandGarrett Alberti of the Valley Jr Warriors, and Tim Duffy of the Connecticut Chiefs.

“I am extremely thankful to the New York Apple Core for the past two years for giving me the opportunity to play for them and to move on to the next level and play college hockey," said Myers. "I am so excited to be playing at St. A’s in the fall of next year. I’m grateful that the coaches gave me the chance to wear an 'A' and be a part of the leadership group this year, and for their support helping me grow both as a player and a person. The teammates I've met are guys who I hope to know for the rest of my life. We formed a brotherhood in the locker room and I loved coming to the rink and seeing everyone every day. I’d like to thank everyone in the Apple Core organization for all their hard work helping me out with my commitment and making junior hockey unforgettable. I’d also like to thank Coach [Larry] Rocha and St. Anselm College for giving me the opportunity to play for them next year and I can’t wait to start.”

Myers and the Apple Core have six regular season games remaining, as they continue to battle for playoff positioning in the Central Division standings.
