Rangers Defenseman Joining Pair of Teammates this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Garrison Gagnon, a defenseman for the Boston Jr Rangers, has committed to SUNY Fredonia for the fall of 2022.

The '02 native of Gilmanton Iron Works, NH is in his 1st season of junior hockey, following four years at the Holderness School (Prep-HS). To date this year, Garrison has racked up 11 points in 28 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games.

“We are very happy for Garrison,” said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "He’s a high energy player that can really skate and defend well. Even though he still has a year left of junior eligibility, he’s ready now to make the jump to NCAA hockey right now."

As DeCaprio mentioned, Gagnon could return next year if he chose to, but rather adds his name to a strong group of incoming freshmen at Fredonia. Overall, Gagnon is one of nine EHL players set to join the Blue Devils this fall, including a pair of additional Rangers in Jake Murphy and Jack Schlifke. Gagnon is beyond excited with his decision to head off to Fredonia.

"One thing I love about Fredonia is how giving they are to the locals in the neighboring towns,” said Gagnon. "Also, in my first moments arriving on campus, Coach Meredith took me into the locker room where they have alumni plaques are on the wall above the stalls. He was able to tell me everything there is to know about every single person on the walls including their lives after Fredonia now - this amazed me.”

Gagnon went on to talk about his decision to come to the Rangers this season, and how grateful he is to everyone that helped him reach this accomplishment.

“Coach DeCaprio has helped me to increase my plan to be ready for the next level by providing input and guidance through my college search," added Gagnon. “I want to thank my parents and family because I wouldn’t have been able to do this without them supporting me the whole way. I would also like to thank my team and coaching staff - without them challenging me, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have so far this season.”
