Rossi Scores 7 Times, and Perno Wins Back-to-Back Goalie Honors

BOSTON, MA -- The roster freeze has come and gone, and the race towards the postseason has cranked up to a new gear in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).

Below you'll find the 20th set of weekly top performers in the #EShow. The forward and defensemen awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #20

The EHL is pleased to announce that Hunter Rossi (Connecticut Chiefs), Jonas Kutzer (Seahawks Hockey Club), and Lenny Perno (Vermont Lumberjacks) have been named the Top Performers for Week #20.

Rossi and the Chiefs won three key Central Division matchups this past week, knocking off the Connecticut RoughRiders twice, with a victory over the Railers Jr Hockey Club sandwiched in between. The Chiefs were firing on all cylinders offensively, scoring 26 total times in the three games, which easily marked the team's best offensive stretch of the season.

As for the '02 native of Washington, CT, Rossi helped lead the way offensively, scoring seven goals over the three-game stretch. Tack on a single assist as well, and he's now got 38 points in 34 total games. The productive year includes 12 goals since the calendar turned over to 2022, and he will look to keep things rolling with seven games left on Connecticut's regular season schedule. With the Railers just two points away from locking up 1st place in the Central, Rossi and the Chiefs are just four away from securing the 2nd seed behind Worcester.

Kutzer and the Seahawks won two of their three games this past week, as they try to improve on their position in the East Division standings. As for the '01 native of Austria, Kutzer scored his first two goals since joining the team in the middle of January, and added a pair of assists to his credit as well. Kutzer now has five total points in seven games to date.

Looking for, the Seahawks finish off with arguably the toughest five-game stretch in the league, as they take on the Railers two more times, to go along with single matchups against the Boston Jr RangersNew Hampshire Avalanche, and Walpole Express.

Perno goes back-to-back, as the '02 native of Rochester, NY led the Lumberjacks to a two-game home sweep this past weekend against the Avalanche. Perno turned aside 70 of the 74 shots that he faced, as he's now won six straight games since dropping his EHL debut with Vermont back on January 30th.

There's no doubt that Perno has been the #1 star for the Lumberjacks on their current winning streak, and Vermont hopes it will continue as the team now sits by itself in 2nd place in North Division. The #2 seed is by no means clinched however, as Perno and the Lumberjacks have five total games remaining on their regular season schedule, including a pair of huge road matchups this weekend against the New England Wolves.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #20

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Logan Downs (Philadelphia Little Flyers), Jack Powers (Boston Jr Rangers), and Joey Jamison (Railers Jr Hockey Club) have been named the Top Performers for Week #20.

Downs and the Little Flyers won a pair of South Division matchups this past week, increasing their 1st-place lead up to six points over the next closest team. As for the '03 native of Aston, PA, Downs scored a pair of goals in a 6-0 victory over the New Jersey Renegades on Friday, and then followed things up with the overtime winner plus an assist against the New Jersey 87s on Saturday. For the season, Downs now has 31 points in 34 total games, and three straight two-point performances.

Downs and the Little Flyers are scheduled for a home-and-home series this weekend with the Renegades, and with a pair of victories, Philadelphia would officially clinch their division and the #1 seed in the upcoming EHLP Playoffs.

Speaking of 1st place teams, Powers and the Rangers continue to sit atop the East Division, following a 4-2 victory over the Walpole Express on Sunday afternoon. The victory came in Boston's only game of the week, as the Railers closed the gap down to four points with still three games in hand on the Rangers.

As for the '02 native of Pittsford, NY, Powers assisted on all four goals that his team scored, running his overall point total up to 19 for the year. Coming up this week, Powers and the Rangers have three big games on the schedule, as they travel to take on the Seahawks Hockey Club on Wednesday, return home to host the Valley Jr Warriors on Saturday, and then hit the road with their EHL on Sunday for a trip down to play the Connecticut Chiefs. Following that trio of matchups comes a huge showdown with the Railers on Friday the 25th.

Speaking of the aforementioned Railers, their chase for the Rangers and the top spot in the East including three victories of their own this past week, two over the Warriors and one over the Seahawks. As for Jamison, the '01 native of Plattsburgh, NY earned two of the victories while stopping 52 of the 53 total shots that he faced.

Since joining the Railers in early December, Jamison has a record of 4-1-0, to go along with a 1.96 GAA, a .931 save percentage, and two shutouts. Prior to that big matchup with the Rangers, Jamison and the Railers will look to take care of business in four games of their own between now and the 25th.
