Railers All-Star Defensemen Set to Join Colonels this Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Tyler Drummond, a defenseman for the Railers Jr Hockey Club, has committed to Curry College for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Baldwin, NY is in his 2nd season with the Railers, and through 79 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Drummond has scored eight goals and collected 40 assists to his credit.

"Tyler has been a top defenseman for us the past two seasons,” said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. “He has logged a lot of minutes in all situations. Tyler is a great skater with an offensive mind. Tyler has a ton of potential and will continue to grow and develop at the next level. He is a great kid and has been one of the leaders of the team. We will miss Tyler and look forward to watching him play at Curry. We are very proud of Tyler Drummond.”

Speaking to that growth that Bertoni mentioned, this was recognized early on this season when Drummond was selected to participate in the 1st Annual EHL All-Star Classic. With that All-Star nod, the Colonels can now say they have two EHL All-Stars heading their way this fall, as Drummond teams up with Julius Kvandal of the New England Wolves. Drummond is beyond excited to have landed a spot with such a high-end NCAA Division III program.

"I have always wanted to go to a small school with a very close community existence and Curry is just that,” said Drummond. “Plus, they have a great hockey program. Attending Curry as a student-athlete is very exciting for me. Being a New Yorker, spending the next four years in the Greater Boston area is also attractive to me. Our first meeting went very well, as I heard everything that I was hoping to hear. I am absolutely beyond excited to be heading to Curry. In watching them play I am well aware they have a lot of very good hockey players on their roster. The coaches informed me that they like their defensemen getting up in the play offensively, and that suits my style.”

Drummond went on to express his gratitude and appreciation for the Railers program that helped make this all possible.

"I can’t thank the coaches enough,” added Drummond. “Coach Bertoni has worked very hard with me. Coach [Keith] Aucoin came to our staff this year and has added a wealth of hockey experience and I have learned a lot from him. Our skating and skills coaches, and our strength and fitness coaches allow every player in our program to grow in every area in building a foundation in the game of hockey. I’m especially grateful to Coach [Mike] Addesa for all of the time he spent counseling me in both hockey and life and the effort he and Coach Bertoni have together contributed to my search for the right fit of a college choice. They [Railers organization] give us everything we need to succeed, from a first class strength and fitness center to a full-time trainer, and lots and lots of ice time. It was everything I needed to get to the next level.”

Drummond then put a bow on things by speaking about his and the team's main goal for the rest of the season.

“Our goal ultimately is to win a championship, but more than anything, I just want to help my teammates live their dream."
