Lumberjacks All-Star Defenseman Set to Join Valiants this Fall

BURLINGTON, VT -- Corey Popowcer, a defenseman for the Vermont Lumberjacks, has committed to Manhattanville College for the fall of 2021.

The '01 native of Parkland, FL, recently finished his 2nd season with Vermont, and in 79 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Popowcer tallied 51 total points to his credit.

"Corey is an offensive defenseman who can move with the puck and make things happen," said Lumberjacks head coach and general manager Gary Gill. "He has the ability to beat you by skating the puck or making a really good first pass. He will be an instant asset to Manhattanville College. The entire Vermont Lumberjacks organization wishes Corey the very best in this new chapter."

While Popowcer goes in the books as the 19th player in league history to choose Manhattanville, he also helps the league extend on its streak of sending at least one player per year since the EHL was formed back in 2013. Also, Popowcer is the 3rd player in Lumberjacks history to commit to the Valiants, as he joins Mason Emoff and Glynn Robitaille.

"I'm really excited for the next chapter in my life and I'm excited to better myself as a student-athlete at Manhattanville College," said Popowcer. "I want to thank my amazing family, all the great teammates I've had over the years, and coaches who have helped make this all possible."

When looking back on his time in the EHL, of the many highlights that Popowcer can circle, he can take pride in helping the 2020-21 reach the Frozen Finals for the 1st time in franchise history as well as his selection to the 1st Annual All-Star Classic this past November.
