Chiefs All-Star Goaltender Set to Join Corsairs this Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- Marshall McKallip, a goaltender for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to UMass Dartmouth (UMD) for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Pittsburgh, PA is in his 3rd season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and 2nd full year with the Chiefs program. McKallip's time in the #EShow actually began at the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) level, as he made four starts with the Railers Junior Hockey Club back in the 2019-20 season.

Late in that year, he moved over to the Chiefs, and made a pair of starts for their EHL team. In total since then, McKallip has won 22 games throughout his time in the EHL.

"I am so happy for both Marshall and Coach [Erik] Noack," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. "What a great fit for both. The best compliment I can pay to Marshall is that he makes me feel calm when he is in the net. Coach Noack got a good one here and will reap the benefits for the next 4 years."

McKallip joins a strong incoming freshmen class at UMD that includes five more EHL players, from five different programs. This fall, the EHL All-Star netminder will join up with Pat Aalto from the East Coast WizardsKevin Johnston from the New England WolvesJames Mettler from the New Jersey 87sAlex Newton from Team Maryland, and Brandon Clark from the Vermont Lumberjacks.

"I'm beyond excited to have committed to UMass Dartmouth," said McKallip. "Continuing my athletic and academic career has always been a dream of mine. I want to thank the Chiefs’ organization for providing a true home for me the last few years, where I was able to grow not only as a hockey player, but also as a young man. Also, I want to thank my teammates and Coach Heffernan for pushing me to become the player who UMass Dartmouth will be getting. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity put forth by Coach Noack and can’t wait to take the step to the NCAA next fall. Lastly, I want to say thank you to my parents, as without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Ultimately, I committed to UMass Dartmouth because of the plethora of academic opportunities, the beautiful campus, and the great program Coach Noack has built. I can’t wait to be a Corsair!”

With this weight now off of his shoulders, McKallip can turn his full attention towards game #3 of the Central Division finals. The Chiefs are heading over to Worcester, MA this afternoon, for a 2:40 pm puck drop with the Railers Jr Hockey Club. Simply put, the winner goes to the 2022 EHL Frozen Finals.
