Railers Forward Set to Join Owls this Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Ryan Moorhouse, a forward for the Railers Jr Hockey Club, has committed to Westfield State University (WSU) for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Westfield, MA chose the Railers for his final season of junior hockey, and through 37 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Moorhouse has tallied nine points to his credit.

"Ryan Moorhouse is a three-zone player that can play the middle and wing,” said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. “Ryan has given us an honest effort and is a great teammate. We are happy that Ryan has achieved his goal of playing hockey for Coach [Bob] Miele at Westfield State.”

Moorhouse joins a strong incoming freshmen class at WSU this fall, one that includes five other players from around the EHL. Along with Julian Boisclair of the Boston Jr Rangers and Nicolas Coppola of the New Hampshire Avalanche, Moorhouse will join up with three additional teammates from the Seacoast Spartans, in Cooper BoardDanny Finegan, and Thomas Reilly.

"It is kind of a unique situation going to college in the town you grew up in,” said Moorhouse, “Especially with my two older brothers having gone there for college as well. Westfield was my number one choice. It was something I always wanted to do. It worked out well. I knew what I would be seeing as far as the campus goes, but it is part of the process. They showed interest in me. The team is getting better all the time and I know they are bringing in a lot of good players for next year. I was also able to see the team’s new locker room, which was impressive.”

Moorhouse went on to discuss further about his time with the Railers.

“I am loving it,” added Moorhouse. “One of the things I wanted to do in this my age-out year was to live away from home. It has been great. The Railers staff and general manager have been great, a lot of help. They really know how to make a good player get better. This is my most important season, and I have been able to improve in every aspect of my game. Coach Bertoni runs a great practice. We run certain systems and colleges like to see that. Not only do we get to learn systems, but we learn how to learn the systems. Also, Coach [Mike] Addesa] has been on phone with me over the course of the season, giving me options. He never pushed me to go to a school that I didn’t want to go to. He knew Westfield was my top choice from the beginning and he did everything he could to make it work for me.”

Moorhouse and the Railers are set to hit the ice for their first-ever EHL Frozen Finals appearance this upcoming Wednesday. Worcester's opening matchup puts them up against the Philadelphia Little Flyers, the champions of the South Division.
