Express Veteran Forward Set to Join Knights this Fall

WALPOLE, MA -- Jared Shuter, a forward for the Walpole Express, has committed to Arcadia University for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Prescott, AZ is in his 2nd season with the Express, and through 94 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Shuter has tallied 41 total points to his credit.

"Jared has played a large part in the team's success over the past two seasons,” said Express head coach Josh Holmstrom. “Last year, he centered our third line, and he could shut down top opponents, while also leading our penalty kill unit. He's still a top shut-down center and leader on the PK, but this year he has developed offensively as well. Jared does a great job using his body to protect the puck and draw in defenders. He opens up a lot of space for his teammates. Jared leads by example and I am very excited to see him progress at the next level.”

While Shuter goes in the books as the 1st EHL player to commit to Arcadia so far this season, he's also 9th player league history to choose Knights. Shuter took some time to talk about what aspects he considered when making his decision.

“There were two main factors when choosing a school," said Shuter. "Arcadia was a great fit academically by offering a number of prestigious science programs for me to pursue. Secondly, the hockey program and staff having a will to win every night. After visiting the school and meeting with Coach [Vinny] Pietrangelo, I found a true sense of belonging.”

Shuter then went on to talk about his time with the Express program, and how the experience with Walpole led to this moment.

“My experience with the Express has helped me become a better person and an improved hockey player," added Shuter. "Both Coach [Cody] Campbell in my first season and Coach Holmstrom this year have created an environment that gave me opportunities to grow as a person. This year having a leadership role has given me tools for my future as well. Most importantly, the Express organization provided me with teammates that I will value as brothers for life.”

Alongside those teammates, Shuter will hit the ice at Schneider Arena on Wednesday, as the Express make their franchise's first-ever appearance at the EHL Frozen Finals. Walpole's 1st game puts them up against the two-time champion New Hampshire Avalanche.
