Seahawks Defenseman Set to Join Knights this Fall

SOUTH DENNIS, MA -- Sawyer Smith, a defenseman for the Seahawks Hockey Club, has committed to Arcadia University for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Gibsonia, PA chose the Seahawks for his final season of junior hockey, and Smith played in nearly every game for his team this past year. After hitting the ice for 45 of the 46 regular season games on the Seahawks' Eastern Hockey League (EHL) schedule, Smith was also in the lineup for all three of the team's playoff contests.

Overall, Smith goes in books as the 10th player in league history to choose Arcadia, and 2nd from the 2021-22 season. This fall, the EHL All-Star defenseman will join up with Jared Shuter from the Walpole Express.

"I loved every second of this season playing for the Seahawks and I am thankful to play my last year of juniors in such a great place," said Smith. "Playing for Coach [Bill] Zaniboni was an awesome experience with his great, tough coaching style and it really helped me improve me game.  I am very grateful for the opportunities that came from playing under Coach Zaniboni. I will always cherish this year as I move on to Arcadia University. I am excited to be challenged with my first experience of college hockey and to get back in the classroom.  I feel that everything I learned this season will really help me transition well to the next level."
