ODENTON, MD -- Owen Schmidt, a forward for Team Maryland, has committed to, has committed to Finlandia University for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Palmyra, PA played out his age-out campaign (2021-22) with Maryland, and over the course of 37 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games, Schmidt posted 22 points with eight goals and 14 assists.

"Owen is a 200-foot player that competes day in and day out, and puts a lot of work into his craft," said Maryland head coach and general manager Josh Fusco. "He is great teammate and was a pleasure to have coached this past season.  He’s going to be a great fit at Finlandia and I can’t wait to watch his continued success."

Schmidt is one of seven players that made their NCAA Commitment after playing for Team Maryland last season, and overall, he's one of three EHL players heading off to join the Lions. When Schmidt arrives on campus he will be joined by Kyle Lee of the Seahawks Hockey Club and Connor Nagy of the New York Apple Core.

"I can’t wait to be a part of the hockey program at Finlandia this fall," said Schmidt. "I’m very grateful for Coach Fusco’s mentoring and dedication to our group in Maryland and for Coach [Joe] Burcar and the team at Finlandia making me feel welcome."
