Banoun's Three-Win Week Leads to STOW Honor

BOSTON, MA -- We're through Columbus Day Weekend and the parity only continues to grow in both the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).

Below you'll find the 4th set of weekly top performers for the 2022-23 season. The forward and defensemen awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #4

The EHL is pleased to announce that Ethan Lim (Connecticut Chiefs), Jacob Gates (Protec Jr. Ducks), and Max Banoun (New York Apple Core) have been named the Top Performers for Week #4.

Lim the Chiefs posted a record of 2-0-1 in their three games this past week, improving their overall mark up to 7-1-2 for the season. The solid week included wins over the Railers Jr. Hockey Club and the New Hampshire Avalanche, plus an overtime loss at the hands of the Boston Jr. Rangers, but the near-perfect week resulted in Connecticut collecting five out of a possible six points.

As for the '02 native of Miami, FL, Lim set the pace for his team offensively by scoring three goals to go along with a pair of assists. Since joining the Chiefs at the end of September, Lim has notched at least a point in all five games that he's played, tallying 11 total points to his credit so far. Coming up this week, Lim will look to continue to lead the Chiefs in a pair of divisional matchups against the Apple Core and HC Rhode Island.

Speaking of 1st place teams, that's where Gates and the Ducks find themselves after splitting their four games over the course of the holiday weekend. Focusing in particularly on the South Mini-Showcase in Sewell, NJ, and that's where the '02 native of Clifton, ME led his team to a pair of victories over Team Maryland and the Philadelphia Little Flyers.

Gates scored three total goals, including both game-winners, and collected an assist as well, increasing his point total up to nine for the year. The Ducks lead the league in games played, which has helped them ascend to the top of the South, but the upcoming stretch will not be easy by any stretch for Protec with seven straight divisional matchups between now and the November Showcase.

Wrapping things up in the Central Division, Banoun and the Apple Core stand as one of the hottest teams in the EHL, after winning all three of their games this past week. The '02 native of Alpine, NJ was in net for all three victories, including a 1-0 shutout over the Philadelphia Hockey Club at the South Mini-Showcase.

For the season, Banoun now has a record of 3-2-0, to go along with a 2.36 GAA and a .938 save percentage. The veteran goaltender will look to stay hot in his team's showdown with the Chiefs, followed by a two-game series with Maryland.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #4

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Hunter Atkinson (New Hampshire Avalanche), Jack Randall (Adirondack Jr. Thunder), and Owen Currier (New England Wolves) have been named the Top Performers for Week #4.

Atkinson and the Avalanche swept their weekend set of games, earning a win over the Express Hockey Club, plus a two-game sweep of the Connecticut Chiefs. As for the '04 native of Pine Planes, NY, Atkinson scored three total goals over the course of the weekend, to go along with an assist. The playmaker now has seven total points in 10 games to date, and that includes at least a point in his last five contests.

Atkinson and the Avalanche find themselves in a tight battle at the top of the New England Division, with just a single game on the schedule this week as they play host to the Seahawks Hockey Club on Thursday.

Sticking with the New England Division, Randall and the Thunder picked up a weekend sweep of their own by earning a pair of victories over the New Jersey 87's. The '02 native of Queensbury, NY scored his 2nd goal of the season, to go along with his 2nd and 3rd assists of the year, as Adirondack continues to stretch their games past regulation. It's worth noting that six of the last seven games for Adirondack have gone past regulation to determine a winner.

Coming up this weekend, the Thunder return home for a pair of "new team" matchups with the Pennsylvania Huntsmen, who enter the weekend riding a five-game winning streak of their own. Puck drops for this weekend's games are set for 7:00 pm on Saturday and 11:00 am on Sunday.

Putting a bow on things, and remaining in the New England Division, Currier and the Wolves hit the ice for just a single game this past week but they made it count by handing the defending-champion Boston Jr. Rangers their first loss of the season. The '04 native of Concord, NH got the nod in goal as he turned aside 43 of the 44 shots he faced en route to his 3rd win of the year.

Currier's record now stands at 2-0-1, to go along with a 2.92 GAA and a .929 save percentage. New England is set for a big upcoming weekend that includes a matchup with the Valley Jr. Warriors on Friday, and a pair of games against the Chiefs on Saturday.
