Filak's Near-Perfect Week Headlines Star Performances

BOSTON, MA -- We've officially turned things over to the month and thus reached another showcase week in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP). However, prior to the start of the next league-wide event, we will take a quick look back at what took place this past week in both divisions of play.

Below you'll find the 8th set of weekly top performers for the 2022-23 season. The forward and defensemen awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #8

The EHL is pleased to announce that Luke Morrisette (Boston Jr. Rangers), Jacob Gates (Protec Jr. Ducks), and David Filak (Boston Jr. Rangers) have been named the Top Performers for Week #8.

Morrisette, Filak, and the Rangers, took care of business in a big way this past weekend, sweeping their weekend set of games by beating the Seacoast Spartans by the score of 6-0 on Friday and then following things up with a 6-1 win over the Express Hockey Club on Saturday. Overall, the four-point weekend improved the Rangers' record up to 9-7-0 for the season, and propelled the team into 1st place in the East Division, heading into this week's showcase in Haverhill, MA.

Focusing in first on the '02 native of Arden Hills, MN, Morrisette earned his 2nd Forward of the Week honor of the season after tallying six total points throughout the two-game stretch. After enduring a brief four-game pointless streak, Morrisette broke out in a big way by scoring his 5th and 6th goals of the year along with increasing his assist total up to seven to date. With 13 points in 16 total games, the Rangers will surely lean on Morrisette at this weekend's league-wide event and down the stretch towards the Thanksgiving break.

On the other end of the ice, Filak earned his 5th and 6th respective wins of the season by stopping 62 of the 63 total shots he faced over the two-game stretch. Since joining the Rangers in late September, Filak has put together a record 6-3-0, and his 1.47 GAA and .951 save percentage each rank 1st overall amongst all qualified goaltenders.

Coming up this weekend at the showcase, Morrisette, Filak, and the Rangers will take on the Philadelphia Hockey Club on Friday, the Vermont Lumberjacks on Saturday, and the Connecticut RoughRiders on Sunday.

Wrapping things up on the blue line, Gates has also now claimed his 2nd Defenseman of the Week honor will helping his team earn five out of a possible six points this past week against Team Maryland. The 2-0-1 record for the Ducks improved Protec's overall mark up to 12-6-1 for the year, as they continue to set the pace at the top of the South Division.

As for the '02 native of Clifton, ME, Gates earned a 2nd honor to his name after tallying seven assists throughout the three-game series with Maryland. For the season Gates now has 20 points in 19 total games to date, which places him at the very top of the defensive scoring charts in the EHL.

Coming up this weekend at the showcase, Gates and the Ducks will take on HC Rhode Island on Friday, the Railers Jr. Hockey Club on Saturday, and then wrap things up with a matchup against the New Hampshire Avalanche on Sunday.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #8

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Dylan Idland (New Jersey Renegades), Ryan Dutcher (Railers Jr. Hockey Club), and Nick Piazza (Express Hockey Club) have been named the Top Performers for Week #8.

Idland and the Renegades hit the ice for just a single game this past weekend, but New Jersey made it count by earning a 4-0 victory over the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday night. As for the '02 native of Rockaway, NJ, Idland tallied three total points including the game-winning goal, en route to the victory. For the season, Idland now has an even 14 points in 14 total games to date, with half of those points (7) coming in the last three contests.

Idland is a multi-year veteran for the Renegades, and if he can maintain the pace that he is currently on, there is chance he reaches the 100-point plateau for his career in the EHLP before the season is finished.

Dutcher and the Railers hit the ice for a pair of games and won both contests this past week in the EHLP. Worcester started things off by earning a 5-1 victory over the Connecticut Chiefs on Saturday and then picked up a 5-4 win over the Seahawks Hockey Club on Monday. Overall, the four points gives Worcester 25 for the season, and their 12-4-1 record has them battling it out with the Boston Jr. Rangers at the top of the Boston Division standings.

As for the '03 native of Holliston, MA, Dutcher notched four total points combined between the two games, including the game-winning tally against the Seahawks. For the season, Dutcher now has nine points through 17 total games to date, and he'll look to keep the momentum rolling as the Railers take on the Vermont Lumberjacks and New England Wolves at this weekend's league-wide event.

Sticking with the Boston Division, Piazza and the Express split their weekend sit of games, shutting out the Seahawks on Friday night and then falling to the New Hampshire Avalanche on Saturday night.

As for the '03 native of Attleboro, MA, Piazza was simple spectacular against the Seahawks on Friday night, en route to his first career junior hockey shutout. Piazza stopped all 51 shots that his faced for his 4th win of the season, while also lowering his GAA down to 3.16 and increasing his save percentage up to .920 for the year.

As for this weekend's showcase schedule for Piazza and the Express, they'l take on the Adirondack Jr. Thunder on Friday, the Connecticut Chiefs on Saturday, and the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Sunday.
