Michigan Native Set to Lead New Program Next Fall

BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Jr. Terriers are pleased to announce that Cody Gonyeau has been named the first Head Coach in program history, as the team will begin their inaugural season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) in September of 2023.

“Stepping into the Boston Jr Terriers hockey family is an absolute honor," said Gonyeau. "I’m excited for what is to come with this organization. We’re already building for next season and I’m confident we will put together a very competitive and hard working team. We’re lucky to be part of the Eastern Hockey League. There is a lot for us to look forward to!”

Cody Gonyeau has been a staff member of the Northeast Generals organization since February 2017 during the Generals’ first inaugural season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He began as a Mid-American regional scout before starting the role of Assistant GM in 2018. In March 2021, Cody accepted the position of Assistant Coach and Assistant GM for the NAHL team, as well as, Head Coach for the 16U Midget team and Academy Director for a newly launched Generals Academy.

Cody is originally from Sault Ste. Marie MI, and played competitive hockey through SMHA & Sault Blue Devil Hockey. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Central Michigan University. Cody spent 3 seasons as a Head Coach for the Cleveland Barons through 14U-16U in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (T1EHL). While coaching for the Barons, he also started the program’s Cleveland Athletic Academy, which served as the academic center for players to study and add additional development in hockey. Before the Barons, he also spent 3 seasons coaching with Saint Ignatius High School. Cody has held other various positions in hockey, such as a BCHL/NAHL Scout for Neutral Zone Scouting, and a Skill Development Coach for the Cleveland Barons.

The Jr. Terriers are one of three new programs that the EHL approved back in late October, each of which have created a well-established name for themselves for the programs they've developed at the youth levels.

Please join the EHL in officially welcoming Cody Gonyeau to the #EShow.
