Railers Rookie Forward Set to Join Hounds next Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Dan Lemanski, a forward for the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, has committed to Assumption University for the fall of 2023.

The '03 native of Clinton, MA is in his first season with Railers and through 24 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Lemanski has tallied a pair of goals plus eight assists to his credit.

"Dan has picked up the junior game quickly in his short time here,” said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. “Dan is a great teammate who brings a positive personality to the locker room. He is learning to become a complete, three-zone player. He works hard and has had his sights set on attending Assumption since day one. We are very pleased Dan reached his goal of attending Assumption University to receive an excellent education and to play for Coach [Michael] Looney.”

As Bertoni mentioned, Lemanski had his sights set on the Greyhounds from the moment he arrived with the Railers, after Assumption showed interest in him last season when he was playing midget hockey at the 18U level.

Part of what helped solidify Lemanski's decision was the ability to lean on John Fine-Lease as a resource. John is the Head Coach of the Railers' EHLP team, serves as an Assistant Coach for the EHL team, and is an alum of Assumption University.

“I sat down with Coach Fine-Lease and he answered all my questions and was helpful throughout the process," said Lemanski. "He told me that if I could see myself going there, then I should do it.”

Fine-Lease echoed a similar positive sentiment about his conversation with Lemanski.

“I’m happy to see Danny make his commitment to Assumption University,” said Fine-Lease. “His strong work ethic and high compete level will fit well within the culture Assumption has built.”

Lemanski went on to talk about his decision to play his one and only season of junior hockey with the Railers, and what it means to him to have this weight now off of his shoulders.

"The player I am now compared to last year is night and day," added Lemanski. "I’ve never played at this high of a level before, and I’ve never focused on the details so much. Whether it’s the strength program, the resources, the time Coach Bertoni spends with us, the ‘Railer way’ is the right way. I talk to players on other teams and no one focuses on the game the way we do. It’s stressful not knowing where you’re going in the future. I’ve been playing this sport for 14 years and you always wonder what’s next. Now, I know I have a good spot and a home, and it's a good feeling.”
