Junkin's 48-Save Shutout Headlines Latest Set of Stars

BOSTON, MA -- We're down to the final 10 days until every team will be officially at the holiday break in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).

Below you'll find the 13th set of weekly top performers for the 2022-23 season. The forward and defensemen awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #13

The EHL is pleased to announce that Hans Forselius (Seahawks Hockey Club), Patrick McKiernan (New Hampshire Avalanche), and Nicholas Junkin (Connecticut RoughRiders) have been named the Top Performers for Week #13.

Forselius and the Seahawks won both of their games this past week, shutting out the Boston Jr. Rangers by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, and then knocking off the Valley Jr. Warriors 5-4 in overtime on Thursday. The four-point week increased the Seahawks lead up to that exact number at the top of the East Division standings.

As for the '02 native of Guilford, CT, Forselius helped set the pace offensively tallying five total points over the course of the two games, by adding three goals and two assists to his credit. For the season, Forselius now has 18 points in 22 total games to date. After joining the Seahawks part-way through the 2021-22 season, Forselius now has tallied 33 total points in 42 career games in the EHL. The Seahawks are set to take on Team Maryland, the Seacoast Spartans, and the New Jersey 87's at this week's showcase in Newington, CT.

Speaking of division leaders and two-game sweeps, McKiernan and Avalanche won both of their matchups this past week, 3-2 over the East Coast Wizards on Wednesday and 5-2 over HC Rhode Island on Thursday. As for the '03 native of Glastonbury, CT, McKiernan tallied a trio of points (1 goal, 2 assists) over the course of the two games, increasing his point total up to 15 for the year.

With an overall record of 19-4-1, McKiernan and the Avalanche sit atop both the North Division and league standings heading into the showcase. This week's matchups for the Avalanche include the Philadelphia Hockey Club, Maryland, and the Valley Jr. Warriors, as they try to maintain their position at the top heading into 2023.

Wrapping things up in goal, Junkin and the RoughRiders split their two-game home series with Maryland this past Thursday and Friday. As for the '02 native of Broomfield, CO, Junkin got the nod in the victory on Thursday, turning aside all 48 shots he faced for his first career EHL shutout. It was without a doubt Junkin's best performance to date with the RoughRiders, as he kept one of the top teams from the South Division completely off the board.

Coming up this week, Junkin and the RoughRiders will take on the Express Hockey Club and the Vermont Lumberjacks, as they continue to battle for positioning in the Central Division standings.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #13

The EHLP is pleased to announce that RJ Sember (New England Wolves), Ryan Sember (New England Wolves), and Aidan Healey (Railers Jr. Hockey Club) have been named the Top Performers for Week #13.

It was a perfect week for the Sember brothers and the Wolves, as they won all four of their games and improved their record up to 14-5-3 for the season. Overall, the eight-point week also helped the Wolves move into a tie with the Adirondack Jr. Thunder for 2nd place in the New England Division.

Starting first with the '04 forward, RJ tallied at least a point in all four games, finishing the week with seven total points on a goal and six assists. The seven-point week increased RJ's season total up to 18 for the year, which puts him on a great pass to surpass the 34 total points he notched combined between the regular season and the postseason this past year.

As for the '06 defenseman and younger brother, Ryan racked up six assists of his own, increasing his point total up to 11 for the year. The brothers from Webster, NY clearly have a bright future ahead of them, and this marks the first time ever in the history of both the EHL and EHLP that two brothers have won Top Performer honors in the same week.

Speaking of turning heads, Healey continues to do just that in his first season of junior hockey with the Railers. The '03 native of Marshfield, MA got the start and made 36 saves in a huge 2-1 victory over the Boston Jr. Rangers this past Thursday. The stellar performance between the pipes has earned Healey his 4th Star of the Week honor, after already having been recognized with the award in Week's #3, #6, and #10.

For the season, Healey is setting the pace for all goaltenders in the EHLP with a record of 9-1-1 to go along with a 1.88 GAA, a .937 save percentage, and three shutouts. The young netminder is a big reason why Worcester owns a record of 18-5-1 and is currently ranked as the #1 team in the EHLP. Healey and the Railers will hit the ice for three more games between now and the start of the holiday break.
