The Road to College Showcase will bring together a handful of teams from the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), to face-off against a group of programs from the collège d'enseignement general et professionnel (CEGEP).

The CEGEP network was founded in 1967. Situated in all regions of Québec and numbering 48, the CEGEPs represent the first stage of higher education. Students enter CEGEP after completing six years of elementary school and five years of secondary school.

A particular feature of CEGEPs is the co-existence of pre-university programs, leading to university studies, and technical career programs, which prepare students to enter the job market.

"The Worcester Railers are very excited to host an event like this," said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. "It is special to have the CEGEP teams come down and play the EHL. This wouldn’t have taken place if it wasn’t for Coach [Mike] Addesa. We look forward to having a competitive, spirited three days of hockey."

The event in January will provide players from the EHL, EHLP, and CEGEP a unique opportunity to be scouted against competition from outside each league's respective country. Simply put, events like this are rare, and the feeling of excitement is felt mutually by the programs traveling down from Canada.

"We are very excited about coming to play in this event, especially this year after 2 years without traveling across the border," said Claude Morin the Athletic Director at Andre-Laurendeau. "It will be a fun event as we are bringing 7 teams from the RSEQ to play US teams from the EHL. It will be a very good exposure for our league, teams, and players. We hope we can make it work for many years to come and build a relationship between the 2 respective leagues."
