Peters Works His Way Up From the EHLP to the Professional Ranks

BOSTON, MA -- To commemorate the Eastern Hockey League's (EHL) 10-year anniversary, each month we will highlight an Alumni player who excelled in the league, and then used the EHL as a pathway to further hockey success.

For the month of February we look back on Chris Peters, a 1997 birth year forward from upstate New York, who spent time with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs, the New England Wolves, and then finished his EHL career with two outstanding seasons with the Walpole Express. During that time he recorded 165 points in 131 career EHL games. Following his Junior Hockey career he committed to and played for NCAA DIII powerhouse UMass- Boston, recording 83 points in only 75 career games (2020-21 season cancelled due to COVID-19). Peters is now currently playing in the SPHL for the Birmingham Bulls, and he recently spoke with league staff and reflected on his time in the EHL.

“The EHL was great for me because of the easy travel and exposure the league had," said Peters. "The multiple showcases lead to constant exposure and ultimately to achieve one of my goals of playing college hockey."

Three different Junior Hockey teams in his EHL career is not easy, but Peters turned heads consistently, and had most every NCAA DIII school in the country speaking to him, before committing to becoming a UMass-Boston Beacon.

“I chose UMB because of the coaching staff and their unique campus/athletics set up," added Peters. "The education was great and I was able to meet some of the best people on the east coast."

Looking back on his amateur hockey career, and now having turned to Pro Hockey in the Southern Professional Hockey League, Peters had time to reflect on the journey and look back positively on each step in the process. He shared this tip for aspiring college student-athletes.

“The advice I would give to young players in the EHL is to try to get better everyday. Mistakes will happen but it’s all a part of the process of becoming the best player and person you can be," concluded Peters.

With Peters scoring his first professional goal on January 6th against the Pensacola Ice Flyers, we wish him continued success in his Pro Hockey journey. The EHL takes great pride in players such as Chris Peters for helping them reach their goals and fulfilling our league motto -- With every player comes a different path and next step. Whether it's college hockey or climbing the junior ranks, the EHL and the EHLP provide all of our players with the resources to improve their game and keep climbing in their respective journeys.

Every story is different, and we're ready to help you write the next chapter in yours.
