The '03 native of Franklin, MA recently joined the Avalanche in early January, and in 11 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Havens has tallied 14 points to his credit. It's also worth noting that the talented playmaker has only been held off the scoresheet on two separate occasions.
"Gavin came to us after leaving the NCDC and was instantly on several college hockey radars," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He is a very good player and an even better young man. He is going to be a great addition to the Rams community, both on and off the ice. I am very proud of his accomplishments and look forward to keeping track of him next season. I wish him and his family the best of luck in the future."
As Cerrella mentioned, upon Havens arrival to the EHL, he instantly garnered interest from multiple collegiate hockey programs. With his decision made for Suffolk, he becomes the second member of the Avalanche to choose the Rams so far this year. Interestingly enough, both he and Daniel McKiernan are both 2003 birth years, indicating that they could each return for one more year of juniors if they wanted to. However, just like McKiernan, Havens is ready now to take the next step in his journey.
"I am very excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at Suffolk University," said Havens. "I chose Suffolk because of the school, location, and opportunities I believe I will have in my future. I also chose it because of Coach [Shawn] McEachern and his great qualities. I would like to thank my family for helping me throughout my entire hockey journey and Coach Cerrella for making this possible!"
Havens and the Avalanche are closing in on the program's first-ever Regular Season Championship in the EHL. Of course, along with the Regular Season title, that would also mean that New Hampshire would officially be the #1 seed in the North Division in the upcoming playoffs.
