Apple Core Defenseman Climbs Ladder to NCAA Hockey

BREWSTER, NY -- Kyle Charbonneau, a defenseman for the New York Apple Core, has committed to Anna Maria College for the fall of 2023.

The '02 native of Dartmouth, MA began his junior hockey career at the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) level this past season with the New Hampshire Avalanche. In 38 total games for New Hampshire, Charbonneau tallied 13 points to his name. Fast-forward to this season with the Apple Core, his single campaign in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) has seen him hit the ice for 37 games for New York.

"It was our goal to help Kyle reach his dream of playing NCAA hockey and the Massachusetts native will do just that for the Amcats,” said Apple Core head coach and general manager Lenny Cagliannone. “Charbonneau came to us through the EHLP so it was good to see him progress this season and become a full-timer at the EHL level. Kyle has progressed and developed at a tremendous rate. He’s done a great job providing a considerable amount of depth to our blue line. His maturity and approach to the game are reflected in his commitment to Anna Maria. Congratulations Kyle!"

Charbonneau adds his name to a growing class of future Amcats, that includes three other players from around the EHL. This fall, Charbonneau will become new teammates with Justin Beers from the Express Hockey Club, Caleb Cathcart from the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and Sean McWhinnie from the Railers Jr. Hockey Club.

“My time at the Apple Core this season has been something special,” said Charbonneau. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys to be with day in and day out. I want to thank my family, teammates, and coaches for all the help to get to where I am today. I can't wait to get started in the fall. Let’s go Amcats!"
