Railers Forward Set to Join Amcats this Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Sean McWhinnie, a forward for the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, has committed to Anna Maria College for the fall of 2023.

The '03 native of Natick, MA chose the Railers for his first and only season of junior hockey, and through 33 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, McWhinnie has tallied nine points to his credit.

“Sean is a big power forward that came to us in late September,” said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. “Sean is a smart player that has a history of scoring goals. Although Sean is only a 2003, we feel he is ready to start the next chapter.”

As Bertoni mentioned, being only an '03 birth year, McWhinnie technically could return for one more season of junior hockey. However, the 6'2 forward is ready to get things started at Anna Maria.

“I did not talk to many other schools. I had all my eggs in one basket for Anna Maria," said McWhinnie. “I loved everything they had to offer from the hockey side of things. The coaches are awesome and the players all seem like they bond well together. It was something I wanted to be a part of. The school has a lot to offer academically as well, with a great fire science program, which really interests me. Ever since I was younger, I have wanted to become a firefighter. Luckily, Anna Maria has a great fire science program that will help me in my journey of becoming one in the future."

McWhinnie went on to talk about his decision to join the Railers program, and how it ultimately helped lead to this moment.

“The Railers definitely played a big role in my development,” added McWhinnie. “I don’t think I would have been able to commit this year without the help of my coaches and teammates. We have a great group of guys in our locker room and they were super pumped to hear the news.”

McWhinnie and the Railers recently clinched the #1 seed in the Central Division, as the team continues to prepare for the playoffs, and what they hope will be a deep run that takes them all the way to the EHL Frozen Finals.
