From His Home State of Connecticut to the Professional Ranks

BOSTON, MA -- To commemorate the Eastern Hockey League's (EHL) 10-year anniversary, each month we will highlight an Alumni player who excelled in the league, and then used the EHL as a pathway to further hockey success.

For the month of March, we look back on Nick Jermain, a 1996 birth year forward from Cos Cob, Connecticut. The rugged 6’0 forward spent nearly a year and a half in the EHL with the Connecticut Oilers (now Connecticut Roughriders) and Coach Eric Lind and Coach Steven Brown, providing steady leadership and nearly a point per game production during his time in CT.

“The EHL helped me prepare for higher levels of hockey as it was my first year focused solely on hockey. Practices were longer, games were against older and stronger opponents, and I definitely struggled for periods of the season, but ultimately it put me in a better position for my second year of juniors, college, and my pro career.” said Jermain.

Following his time in the EHL, Jermain matriculated at nearby Quinnipiac University, playing in 123 games in his 4 years of NCAA hockey.  Prior to the 2019-20 season he earned the Captaincy for the nationally ranked (21-11-2) Bobcats. His 12 goals in his senior season ranked 3rd on the team. The Quinnipiac Bobcats, who reached the national title game the year before his arrival, were highlighted by four NHL draft picks on the roster of the 2019-20 squad. Unfortunately, just before the start of the NCAA tournament, the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

Looking back on his amateur hockey career, and now having turned Pro with stops in the EIHL, ECHL and Slovakian professional leagues, Jermain shared this tip with aspiring college student/athletes.

“My advice for younger players entering juniors would be take advantage of all the time you have to get better," added Jermain. "If you're not taking classes or have a job, you have all the time to get to the rink early and stay late working on your craft. Almost every junior program has all the resources you need to develop. No matter what level you are playing, as long as you are getting better, you have a future in the game.”

With Quinnipiac currently ranked #2 overall in men’s Division 1 NCAA hockey based on their outstanding 30-3-3 record, and Jermain continuing his Pro career with HK Propad in Slovakia, we wish Nick continued success in his hockey journey.

The EHL takes great pride in players such as Nick Jermain for helping them reach their goals and fulfilling our league motto -- With every player comes a different path and next step. Whether it's college hockey or climbing the junior ranks, the EHL and the EHLP provide all of our players with the resources to improve their game and keep climbing in their respective journeys.

Every story is different, and we're ready to help you write the next chapter in yours.
