For the month of July, we look back on Tyler Drevitch, a 1995 birth year forward from Massachusetts, who spent the inaugural season of the EHL with the Boston Bandits. In that inaugural campaign, 2013-14, Drevitch suited up in 44 games and registered 11 goals and 37 points, playing for his hometown squad.

“I had a great experience playing in the EHL," said Drevitch. "It really was a challenge for me to push myself to raise my game to another level before making my next moves in my hockey career, ultimately preparing me for college hockey.”

Those next steps included stops in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and North American Hockey League (NAHL) after committing to NCAA Division I Merrimack while he was playing in the EHL.

“I was visiting with Merrimack leading up to my year in the EHL," added Drevitch. "Going into that year it was my 4th year of junior hockey, and it put a stamp on my commitment to Merrimack. I had played preseason in the USHL that early fall and then coming back to play with the Bandits, where I had a long history in the organization, just further helped my development to keep me progressing as the player I was. From there I was very fortunate to officially make my commitment to Merrimack. The great thing for me about being in the EHL was I was able to play in front of the staff several times, seeing that most of my games were in the greater Boston area.”

During his time at Merrimack, where he would appear in 94 games over the course of a four-year NCAA career, Drevitch continued to evolve and grow his game. From a hockey family, Tyler’s father Scott being the GM and Head Coach of the Bandits, and his brother Logan another NCAA Division I player who also played in the EHL, Tyler’s work ethic and determination earned him an opportunity to play professionally. That work ethic and determination has now led to a stellar and continually improving professional career in the ECHL.

Looking back, Drevitch provided these words of advice for prospective junior hockey players.

“I’d say to always be the hardest worker and take pride in your development," concluded Drevitch. "Players develop at different times in their careers, but the key is to never stop improving your game. I credit the Bandits for putting me in a position to continually challenge myself to be a better version of me. Lastly, I’d say never give up. Chase those dreams and always keep reaching for your goals. If you have the heart, the determination, and the willingness to do whatever it takes then the sky's the limit for you.”
