Former NHL Player to Lead New Franchise in Inaugural Season Next Fall

WELLESLEY, MA -- The Boston Junior Eagles announced on Wednesday that Ian Moran has been named their first Head Coach as the team begins their inaugural season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) next September of 2024.

Ian has been a part of the Jr. Eagles for the last 4 seasons as their Director of Midget Program as well as developing their youth players as the lead skills instructor for the organization.

“I want to thank John Joyce, David Hymovitz and the entire Boston Jr. Eagles organization for the opportunity to coach our first junior team," said Moran. "Over the past decade, the Eastern Hockey League has a great track record for helping develop players to go directly into college or to move on to a higher junior league, but more importantly, the EHL has done an excellent job at producing quality young men who are assets to their college community."

Moran went on to talk about his visions for the junior team and how he'll look to build the roster.

"We will be looking to build a team of goal-oriented players who are self-motivated to be the best players they can be," added Moran. "I’m really looking forward to helping each of them reach their goals. I’m very excited to get started and build a team that the entire Boston Jr. Eagles organization can be proud of.”

Raised in Acton, MA, Moran attended Belmont Hill before spending two seasons at Boston College, where he won the Hockey East Rookie of the Year award in the 1991-92 season. During his 15-year professional career, Ian suited up for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, and Anaheim Ducks for a total of 489 regular season games and 66 playoff games in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Located in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) will celebrate its 12th season in 2024-25, with the Eagles becoming the 24th team in the league. For the past eight years, the EHL has finished as the leader in the Direct-To-College Advancement at the Division II and III levels. To go along with the NCAA Commitments, the EHL has also helped over 100 players work their way up to higher levels of junior play. This area of advancement is also not limited to just players, as the EHL has seen a number of coaches make the jump up the ladder as well.

Please join the league in officially welcoming Moran and the Eagles to the EHL.

The Boston Junior Eagles, founded in 1993, is a proud member of the Eastern Hockey Federation (EHF), EHF Selects, Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and New England Girls Hockey League (NEGHL).
