Goalies Dominate Star Selections

BOSTON, MA -- Week #22 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) Stars of the Week for February 13th through February 19th are presented by Hockey Night in Boston.

North Division

Cam Wickens - Vermont Lumberjacks (G)

The EHL is pleased to announce goaltender Cam Wickens of the Vermont Lumberjacks as the North Division Star of the Week. The ’04 native of Revere, MA had an outstanding performance in a 2-0 win over the New Hampshire Avalanche. Wickens earned the big shutout and had 32 saves against a strong Avalanche team. He continues his solid season with the Lumberjacks with a 3.11 GAA in 26 appearances. Wickens was also a Star of the Week back in Week #12. The Lumberjacks hit the ice next against the Providence Hockey Club and H.C. Rhode Island at the North Regional Showcase held at the Rinks at Exeter starting on Tuesday.

East Division

Alex Koenig - Express Hockey Club (G)

The EHL is pleased to announce goaltender Alex Koenig from the Express Hockey Club as the East Division Star of the Week. Koenig, an ’04 native of Manhattan Beach, CA had a terrific showing in his team’s 2-1 shootout win over the East Coast Wizards. Koenig was solid all game and allowed just one goal on 48 shots in the win. In 13 appearances for the Express this season, Koenig is 9-3-0 with a 1.80 GAA in 769 minutes played. The Express clinched a playoff position and currently hold first place in the East Division with a 29-9-1 record. They take on the Connecticut Chiefs and the Bridgewater Bandits on Tuesday and Thursday in the North Regional Showcase.

Central Division

Maxim Maziarchuk - New York Apple Core (F)

The Central Division Star of the Week for the EHL is forward Maxim Maziarchuk from the New York Apple Core. The ’03 native of Belarus had a great week tallying three goals and two assists in two games played. Maziarchuck had a goal and an assist in his team’s 5-1 win over the New Jersey 87’s. He followed that up with two goals and an assist in a 6-3 win against the Connecticut RoughRiders. In just 10 games played for the Apple Core, Maziarchuk has 17 points (10G, 7A).The Apple Core currently hold a slight lead over the Railers Jr. Hockey Club atop the Central Division and are 32-8-1, winners of 20 straight games. They look to make it 21 straight when they take on the East Coast Wizards on Wednesday in the North Regional Showcase.

South Division

Carson Frye - New Jersey Bears (G)

The South Division Star of the Week in the EHL is New Jersey Bears goaltender Carson Frye. Frye, an ’03 native of Pittsburgh, PA had two incredible showings in goal this past week. First, Frye posted a 5-0 shutout over the Pennsylvania Huntsmen where he had 21 saves. He followed that up with a 2-1 win over the 87’s. Frye allowed just one goal and made 25 saves. He has been key to the Bears’ success all season long and in 28 appearances is 18-7-0 with a 2.28 GAA. The Bears have clinched a playoff position and hold the top spot in the South Division with a 25-10-5 record. On Wednesday, they host the 87’s at Flemington Ice Arena.

New-England Division

Alex Brown - Vermont Lumberjacks (F)

The EHLP is pleased to announce forward Alex Brown from the Vermont Lumberjacks as the New England Division Star of the Week. The ’05 Jericho, VT native had four goals and an assist in two games played this past week. Brown had two goals in a 3-1 win over the Adirondack Jr. Thunder, then had two more goals and an assist in a 6-3 loss against the Jr. Thunder. In 39 games played, Brown has 21 points (11G, 10A). The Lumberjacks clinched a playoff position and have a 13-22-4 record. They are off now until March 2nd when they take on the Pennsylvania Huntsmen at the Ice Works Arena in the Philadelphia Showcase.

Boston Division

PJ Sweeney - Boston Jr Rangers (F)

The EHLP Boston Division Star of the Week for week #22 is forward PJ Sweeney from the Boston Jr. Rangers. The ’04 Fairfax, VA native had three goals and three assists in two games played. Sweeney had two goals and one assist in a 5-4 loss to the Railers and had a goal and two assists in a 4-3 win against the New England Wolves. Sweeney has been a staple offensively for the Jr. Rangers all season. He has 57 points (29G, 28A) in 30 games played. The Jr. Rangers have a 25-7-3 record with 53 points in the Boston Division. They take on the Wolves on Tuesday at Merrill Fay Arena at 12-noon.

Mid-Atlantic Division

Ayden Georgiano - New Jersey 87's

The Mid-Atlantic Division Star of the Week for the EHLP is forward Ayden Georgiano from the New Jersey 87’s. The ’03 native of Jackson, NJ had an impressive showing in a 5-1 win over the Union Jr. Thunder. Georgiano had two goals and two assists for the 87’s in the win. He continues his monster season with an incredible 60 points (23G, 37A) in 36 games played. This is Georgiano’s fourth Star of the Week honors as he also was named one in weeks #4, #9 and #13. The 87’s have won eight straight games and clinched a playoff spot. They currently stand in second place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with a 26-10-0 record. Next up, they play the Huntsmen on Saturday at 8:35 pm at Power Play Rinks.
