Pierce, Spann Each Record Pair of Shutouts

BOSTON, MA -- Week #23 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) Stars of the Week for February 20th through February 26th are presented by Hockey Night in Boston.

North Division

Jonathan Groth - Seacoast Spartans (F)

The EHL is pleased to announce forward Jonathan Groth of the Seacoast Spartans as the North Division Star of the Week. The ’03 native of Newburyport, MA had two goals and two assists in his team’s three games this past week. Groth had a power-play goal and an assist in his team’s 3-1 win over the Seahawks Hockey Club. He also scored the overtime winning goal in a 2-1 win over the Valley Jr. Warriors. Groth has been a key asset for the Spartans all season. In 42 games played, he has 58 points (21G, 37A). The Spartans have clinched a playoff spot and are currently 23-15-5. Next up, they take on the Valley Jr. Warriors on Thursday at 11:30 am.

East Division

Ayden Pierce - Boston Jr Rangers (G)

The EHL is pleased to announce goaltender Ayden Pierce from the Boston Jr. Rangers as the East Division Star of the Week. Pierce, an ’04 native of Canada had a terrific showing in goal earning three wins in three starts this week. First was a 4-1 win over the Seahawks, where he allowed one goal and had 24 saves. He followed that performance up with a 1-0 overtime win where he posted a shutout with 27 saves. Pierce wasn’t done there as he posted a second consecutive shutout with a 2-0 win over the Bridgewater Bandits. In 17 appearances this season, Pierce is 10-5-0 with a 1.89 GAA in 955 minutes played. The Jr. Rangers have won three straight and have a 29-12-1 record. Next up, the Jr. Rangers host the Seahawks on Tuesday at 10:50 am.

Central Division

Daniel Prazma - Railers Jr Hockey Club (F)

The Central Division Star of the Week for the EHL is forward Daniel Prazma from the Railers Jr. Hockey Club. The ’05 native of Cary, NC is the newest addition to the Railers and is already making an impact. In two games played this week, Prazma had two assists in a big 8-2 win over the Rangers. He then scored the lone goal to lift the Railers over the Boston Jr. Terriers 1-0 for his first goal with the team. The Railers stand in first place, but are in a tight race in the Central Division, with just a one-point lead over the New York Apple Core. They currently hold a 33-7-2 record and have won six straight games. They take on H.C. Rhode Island on Wednesday at Thayer Arena at 12-noon.

South Division

Kyle Spann - New Jersey 87's (G)

The South Division Star of the Week in the EHL is New Jersey 87’s goaltender Kyle Spann. Spann, an ’03 native of St. Louis, MO had two incredible showings in goal this past week. First, Spann posted a 3-0 shutout over the New Jersey Bears where he had 33 saves. He followed that up with his second consecutive shutout beating the Pennsylvania Huntsmen 3-0 with 28 saves in net. In 17 appearances this season, Spann is 7-6-0 with a 2.44 GAA in 961 minutes played. The 87’s are in second place in the South Division with a 22-15-5 record and have clinched a playoff spot. Next up, they take on the Connecticut RoughRiders on Thursday at SoNo Ice House at 11:30 am.

New-England Division

Harrison Kramer - New England Wolves (F)

The EHLP is pleased to announce forward Harrison Kramer from the New England Wolves as the New England Division Star of the Week. The ’06 Redlands, CA native had five goals in his team’s two games played this week. Kramer scored a hat-trick in a 6-3 loss to the Rangers and followed that up with two goals in a 3-2 win over the New Hampshire Avalanche. Kramer has shown no signs of slowing down all season with 61 points (33G, 28A) in 38 games played. He was also a Star of the Week in weeks #2 and #16 and was named a Player of the Month for January. The Wolves have clinched a playoff spot and are 17-18-3 in second place in the New England Division. They will be back in action Friday when they take on the New Jersey Renegades in game one of the Philadelphia Showcase.

Boston Division

Drew Coady - Express Hockey Club (D)

The EHLP Boston Division Star of the Week for week #23 is defenseman Drew Coady from the Express Hockey Club. The ’04 Franklin, MA native had three goals and four assists in two games played. Coady had the winning goal and an assist in a 4-3 comeback win over the Avalanche. He followed that up with a five-point performance (2G, 3A) in a 7-2 win over the Seahawks. Coady has been a key blue-liner for the Express all season and has 48 points (23G, 25A) in 38 games played. The Express have a record of 25-10-3 and have won three straight. They will take on the New England Wolves on Saturday in their first game of the Philadelphia Showcase.

Mid-Atlantic Division

Frankie Smith - New Jersey 87's (G)

The Mid-Atlantic Division Star of the Week for the EHLP is goaltender Frankie Smith from the New Jersey 87’s. The ’04 native of Little Ferry, NJ had an impressive showing in goal earning a 4-2 win over the Pennsylvania Huntsmen. Smith allowed two goals and had 38 total saves in the team’s big win. Smith has been a big part of the 87’s success all season. In 21 appearances, he has gone 16-5-0 with a 2.38 GAA in over 1,000 minutes played. The 87’s stand in second place just behind the Huntsmen in the Mid-Atlantic Division with a 27-10-0 record. They play the Wolves on Saturday at noon in the Philadelphia Showcase.
