Convincing 9-2 Win over Boston Jr Rangers

Providence, RI - Championship Saturday, the two greatest words you can here! It was a Boston Division Finals rematch between the at large bid Boston Junior Rangers and The top seeded Railers Junior Hockey Club. The Railers won that series in three games after dropping game one at home. For the finals it was the EHLP Goalie of the Year getting the nod for Worcester, Chris Gingras. For the Rangers it was Luciano Chinappi who has been lights out in Providence.

Not even a minute in to the game the Railers would get their first power play of the day. Brooks Wright sent one towards goal that would take a Railers bounce into the net for an early 1-0 lead. Zack Warner-Senee and Aiden Owen would get the helpers. The Railers fed off the goal and pushed the pace in the early going.. Will Celli rang a one-time blast off the cross bar trying to extend the lead. Carter Amidon would come back the other way on a breakaway against the pace of play, but was denied by the glove of Gingras. Adam Vorce would throw a shot on goal through a screen in front that Chinappi never saw to extend the lead to 2-0 just past the ten-minute mark. With 4:15 to go in the first PJ Sweeney would gain O-zone ice and make a cross crease feed to Omer Petrin who potted his first of the postseason. The Railers would answer right back with another first goal of the post season. Aiden Owen threw a pass in front that hit a Ranger stick and bounced home. Liam Pouliot would sit for a hook shortly after the goal and Max Wretsell made the Railers pay with a power play goal. His tenth of post season. Jaymin Rolfe would respond for the Railers potting his tenth of the playoffs off a faceoff. After one period of play it was 4-2 Railers.

Just over a minute in to the middle frame Chris Gingras robbed Harrison Flaacke on a rebound on the door step keeping the game at 4-2. The pace slowed down as the grade “A” chances went quiet for a bit. With 12:22 to go in the second Carter Amidon would make a great move to get free, but his backhand bid was denied by Gingras. The physicality ramped up through the second as bodies were flying around the arena. The pace really slowed down… just past 14 minutes into the middle frame the shots on goal were 4-3 in favor of the Rangers. With under five to go in the period Chinappi made a huge save on a one-time blast from Luke Castor. The Railers would get a power play goal from Nolan Tomczyk late in the second period to extend the lead to 5-2 heading to the third.

The Railers wasted no time extending their lead in the third. Zack Warner-Senee stayed red hot firing one of the post and in. Brooks Wright was called for a rough a few minutes after the Warner-Senee goal. The Railers penalty kill would go to work. Nolan Tomczyk was sprung free on a breakaway and scored short-handed. It was back to the kill for Worcester, and they once again got the job done behind a couple of saves from Gingras. Nolan Tomczyk and Brooks Wright would each bury one more late in the third. The Railers would go on to win 9-2. The Railers Junior Hockey Club are your 2023-2024 EHLP Champions!

Zack Warner-Senee was named MVP of the Tournament with 12 points, an EHLP Record! We spoke with Captain Nolan Tomczyk and he had high praise for Zack. “He is a great player, no surprise he broke the record.” Head Coach John Fine-Lease knew he had a special group from the start. “This is an unbelievable feeling, these guys worked so hard for this all year.” Danny Ferri, Head coach of the Rangers was proud of his group and their effort all season long. “It’s tough to see the guys who give everything like that.” This is the first EHLP Title in Railers History.
