WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Zach Garnsey, a defenseman for the New Jersey 87's, has committed to Arcadia University for the fall of 2024.
The '03 native of White Plains, NY recently finished his second and final season with the 87's, and now he has officially finished the climb up the ladder from the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), to the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), to NCAA hockey.
Overall, Garnsey finishes off his junior hockey career having tallied 15 points in 77 career games in the EHL, as well as five points over the course of seven total games in the EHLP.
"Zach has been a tremendous player for us over the last three years, when you include his time spent with our 18U program," said 87's head coach and general manager Adam Houli. “He started his time with us in midgets and progressed to becoming a full-time EHL defenseman who now has an NCAA commitment to his name. He has a high-level IQ and ability to really be a shut down defenseman at the the next level. I am very excited to see him play over the next four years. I know he’s going to be a great defenseman in college."
Garnsey is one of four EHL players that have chosen Arcadia for the next step in their respective careers, as he will team with Elijah Clow and Nick Jermolenko from the Philadelphia Hockey Club, as well as Conor Gethings from the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, when he arrives on campus in the fall.
"I couldn’t be more excited to commit to Arcadia University," said Garnsey. "I am really looking forward to playing for Coach Heickert. I want to thank my family for always supporting me throughout the last three years of hockey and the New Jersey 87's organization for preparing me for the next level. I can’t wait to get started. I’m looking forward to the next four years."
