ODENTON, MD -- Jake Hugessen, a goaltender for Team Maryland, has committed to Stevenson University for the fall of 2024.
The '03 native Canada spent a pair of seasons developing in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), splitting his time between Team Maryland, the Boston Jr. Terriers, and the New Jersey 87's. Overall, Hugessen won 22 games over the course of his two years between the pipes, and put together a .935 save percentage combined between his play in the regular season and the postseason.
"Jake was a great addition to our Team Maryland family this past season," said former Maryland head coach and general manager Eric Progen. "He became a large reason for our success throughout the season as he instantly became the top goalie in the EHL and his production was off the charts. We are very excited for him to continue his athletic career at Stevenson University. We're proud of the work Jake has put into himself and his teammates to earn the ability to play at such a great school. We wish him the best in his next journey and can't wait to watch him succeed."
When Hugessen arrives on the Stevenson campus this fall, he will team up with two other players from the EHL. The stacked trio of Mustangs' commitments also includes one of the top scorers in the league in Aidan O’Connell from the East Coast Wizards, as well as the 2024-25 EHL Defenseman of the Year in Jack Costabile from the Philadelphia Little Flyers.
"I’m very proud and honored to announce my commitment to Stevenson University," said Hugessen. "I’d like to especially thank my family, teammates, and my coaches for helping me to get where I am today. A special thanks to Coach Progen and the whole Maryland organization for taking me in and giving me what I needed to succeed. I am super excited for the opportunity that Coach Dawes has given me and can’t wait to get started!"
