Rhode Island All-Star Forward Set to Join Bison this Fall

WARWICK, RI -- Ryan Deschamps, a forward for H.C. Rhode Island, has committed to Nichols College for the fall of 2024.

An '03 from Burrillville, Rhode Island, Deschamps played 31 games during the 2022-23 season, recording a goal and seven assists. In the 2023-24 season, he played 39 games, contributing with three goals and nine assists.

"I am extremely happy for Ryan," said HCRI head coach James Mello. "He was a big part of our foundation here with H.C. Rhode Island, wearing a letter both years he played for us. After suffering two substantial injuries, to see him continue to pursue his goal of playing college hockey and now getting the opportunity is so rewarding for us, but hopefully even more so for Ryan and his family!"

Deschamps expressed his excitement about his next chapter.

"The opportunity to play college hockey is something I have focused on and worked towards since I started playing," said Deschamps. "I am beyond excited to be able to live that dream at Nichols College, and I can’t wait to get started. I am grateful to my family for the support and to everyone at Williston Northampton and H.C. Rhode Island that played such a huge part in my growth to this point!"

Toby O'Brien is the General Manager for the HCRI program, and he took a moment to congratulate his forward as well.

"Ryan is an Ocean State product through and through," said O'Brien. "I have had the pleasure of working with Ryan and his brother Brayden (Providence Capitals) since they were in junior high school. They love the game and come from a very supportive and truly 'hockey family'. I am personally proud that Ryan persevered through a couple legit injuries and is now getting a chance to follow his dream."

Deschamps will be joining Nichols College, an NCAA Division III program, alongside several other EHL alumni, including James Berg from the Boston Jr. Rangers, Michael Del Trecco from the Boston Jr. Terriers, and Derek Greer from the Seacoast Spartans.
