McDonald, Wielgos, and Ziegenfuss Named 3 Stars of the Week

This week, the EHL has selected James McDonald (Vermont Lumberjacks), Eryk Wielgos (Connecticut Oilers), and Edward Ziegenfuss (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) as the EHL Stars of the Week.

James McDonald

McDonald and the Lumberjacks swept their weekend series with the Rangers this past weekend, by scores of 3-1 and 5-3. With the 4 points, Vermont now sits in 7th place in the North Conference, just 1 point behind the Rangers for 6th.

McDonald was held off of the scoresheet on Saturday, but that definitely wasn't the case on Sunday, when the New York native scored a hat-trick. All three tallies came on the power-play for the Lumberjacks, with goal #2 also going down as the GWG, his third of the season. McDonald will look to keep things going this weekend when Lumberjacks travel to Walpole for two games with the Express.

Eryk Wielgos

Wielgos and the Oilers won their only game of the week, picking up a 7-2 victory over the Nighthawks on Sunday afternoon. The 2 points keep the Oilers tied up with the Wolfpack for 2nd place in the South Conference (32 points).

Wielgos now has scored a pair of goals in each of his last two games. The '97 forward is a hometown kid for the Oilers, as he is from Norwalk, the town his team plays out of. Wielgos will look to keep his scoring streak going this week when the Oilers host the Applecore (Thursday) and then travel to take on the Nighthawks (Saturday).

Edward Ziegenfuss

Ziegenfuss and the Jr. Flyers split their two games with the Wolfpack this weekend, losing 5-4 on Saturday, and then bouncing back with a 5-2 win on Sunday. The two points keep Philadelphia in 7th in the South Conference.

The three-point weekend moves Ziegenfuss into 2nd on the team in scoring with 15 points on the season. The New Jersey native has points in 5 of his last 6 games, scoring 6 times and adding 4 assists during the stretch, and he'll look to keep it going this weekend when the Jr. Flyers play two in Brewster against the Applecore.

Vermont Lumberjacks - EHL Team of the Week

This week's top team in the EHL is the Vermont Lumberjacks, as they swept the Rangers, and moved within a point of them in the North Conference standings.

The goaltending was the key for the Lumberjacks as Henry Butler stopped 22 of 23 shots in the win on Saturday night, and then Jack Burkel made 43 of 46 saves for the Lumberjacks on Sunday morning. Tack on James McDonald's power-play hat-trick and Lumberjacks have won 3 in a row and will look to stay hot next weekend against the Walpole Express.
