This past week the EHL was jam-packed with games throughout the EHL, as we head towards the holiday break at the end of the month.
This week, the EHL has selected Brendan Cytulik (East Coast Wizards), Luke Bennett (New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs), and Chris Stangarone (New York Applecore) as the EHL Stars of the Week.
Team of the week honors are going to the Connecticut Oilers once again, and also make sure to check out the Honorable Mention recipients, and the EHL Video of the Week.
It was a crazy week for Brendan Cytulik, who was traded from the Boston Jr. Rangers to the East Coast Wizards, and in less than 24 hours, was already between the pipes for his new team. In 14 games with the Rangers, Cytulik posted a 6-8-0 record to go along with a 2.81 GAA. The Massachusetts native joined the Wizards on Thursday, lost in his debut against the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs on Friday, and then dominated in a 4-0 victory over the Walpole Express on Sunday.
The win snaps a long losing streak for the Wizards, and also gives the new goaltender a major boost in confidence as he gets situated with his new team. The Wizards will look to build off of Sunday's victory when they host the Rangers and Warriors next weekend, their final 2 games before the holiday break.
Bennett's four-point weekend helps move him into 2nd place on the team in scoring, and extends his individual point streak to 7 games. In those 7 games Bennett has scored 3 times and has added 9 assists for a total of 12 points. The Monarchs are in action next when they take on the Vermont Lumberjacks this upcoming weekend. The "Battle of the Border" is set between Vermont and New Hampshire, as the Monarchs look to maintain possession of the Bear Trophy.
The win is Stangarone's 2nd of the season, and the Applecore will look to build off of the momentum when they host the Nighthawks on Friday afternoon. Friday's game is New York's final matchup before the holiday break.
This week's top team in the Premier Division is once again the Connecticut Oilers. The Oilers have now won back-to-back honors, thanks in large part to their weekend sweep of the Jr. Flyers.
The pair of victories brings the winning streak up to 10 games, which matches the stretch that the Boston Bandits (Elite) ran off earlier this year, and is only one win behind the Philadelphia Revolution (Premier) streak of 11 games (longest winning streak of the season).
The Oilers will look to extend their streak in a tough matchup against the Wolfpack on Friday night. This matchup features the two teams tied at the very top of the league standings, each with 40 points.
For this week's EHL Honorable Mentions, we are highlighting a player performance and a team performance.
On Saturday night the New England Wolves picked up a big 3-2 victory on the road over the Boston Bandits. Kurt Gutting led the way for the Wolves, as he stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced in the win over the top team in the North Conference.
After dropping the opener to the Philadelphia Little Flyers, the New York Bobcats bounced back in a big way picking up a 4-2 victory on Sunday. The Bobcats were down 2-0 early in 2nd period, when they flipped the switch for 4 unanswered goals on the way to the win. With the win, New York also snaps Philadelphia's winning streak at 8 games.
This week's top play comes from the Valley Jr. Warriors, as this nice play gave them the early lead on the Lumberjacks.
