Elgstam, Dion, and Kennedy Named 3 Stars of the Week

Only 8 days remain on regular season schedule for the Eastern Hockey League. This past week was a busy one and it included the final mini-showcase (South Conference) taking place at Connecticut College. All of the action brought with it plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

This week, the EHL has selected Douglas Elgstam (New Jersey Rockets), Michael Dion (Hartford Jr. Wolfpack), and Corey Kennedy (New York Bobcats) as the EHL Stars of the Week.

Team of the week honors are going to the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs, and also make sure to check out the EHL Honorable Mention recipients, and the EHL Video of the Week.

***THE FINAL SET OF STARS OF THE WEEK WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH, ALONG WITH A PREVIEW OF THE POSTSEASON***

DOUGLAS ELGSTAM

Elgstam and the Rockets won 2 of their 3 games this weekend, moving them up to 6th place in the South Conference. With 3 games remaining the Rockets can finish as high as 6th and as low as 7th heading into the playoffs.

Elgstam led all scorers with 11 points during the mini-showcase, and now has 54 total points on the season. His 54 points leads the team, and puts him a tie for 4th overall in the EHL. Elgstam is currently riding a five-game scoring streak in which he has 18 points, and he'll look to keep it going when the Rockets wrap up their season this week against the Jr. Flyers on Saturday and Little Flyers on Sunday.

Elgstam also earned Star of the Week honors for his performance at the MLK Day Showcase.

MICHAEL DION

Dion and the Wolfpack won 2 of their 3 games this weekend, tightening things up at the top of the South Conference. The Wolfpack are currently in 4th place, and they still have an outside shot at finishing 2nd overall in the conference with 4 games left on the schedule. On the other end of the spectrum, the Wolfpack can finish as low as 5th heading into the playoffs.

With the pair of victories over the weekend, Dion is now 9-4-0 on the season with a 3.45 GAA. The Massachusetts native along with fellow netminder Kyle Carducci, will look to lead the way down the stretch for the Wolfpack as they wrap up their season with a pair of games against the Nighthawks and a pair of games against the Revolution.

COREY KENNEDY

Kennedy and the Bobcats won 2 of their 3 games this weekend, locking up at least the 5th seed in the South Conference. With 3 games remaining, the Bobcats can finish as high as 3rd place heading into the postseason.

Kennedy's 9 points during the mini-showcase ranked 2nd overall for all scorers, and moves him up to 55 total points on the season. The North Carolina native leads his team in scoring and ranks in a tie for 3rd overall in the league. Kennedy will look to lead the way for the Bobcats in the final week of the regular season when they take on the Jr. Flyers twice and then face-off with the Oilers once in between.

Kennedy also earned Star of the Week honors for his performance the week of October 21st through 26th
.
