EHL Announces Annual Awards for the EHLP Division

BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League is pleased to announce this year's annual award winners in the EHLP Division. Congratulations to the Boston Jr. Rangers on winning the inaugural Elite Division Championship as well as all three of this year's annual honorees.

Here are this year's winners as voted on by the coaches:

Forward - Mike McPherson (Boston Jr. Rangers)
Defenseman - Brendan Horgas (Boston Jr. Rangers)
Goalie - Mike Paglucca (Boston Jr. Rangers)

"All 3 of these guys were key factors in us winning the EHLP Division Championship, and I am looking forward to them having an immediate impact on our Premier team next season," said Rangers head coach Rich DeCaprio.

Just like with the EHLP First Team All-Stars, Mike McPherson received the most votes for the annual awards. It's no surprise after McPherson racked up 100 total points in 38 games this season (regular season and playoffs). McPherson set a record with 50 goals scored, and he registered at least a point in 35 of 38 games.

"Mike really had a tremendous season for us. He obviously is a goal scorer (50) and we look for him to bring that touch to the EHL level next year," commented DeCaprio.

McPherson worked well with his linemate Jonathan Andrews, who tallied 100 points of his own, as well as Brendan Horgas, the league's top-scoring defenseman. Horgas led all d-men with 47 points in 40 games (regular season and playoffs). The Pennsylvania native compiled nearly half of those points (22) while playing on the Rangers' top special teams units.

"Brendan has tremendous skill and natural ability on the ice.  He was our captain this year and a return player from last year's championship team (MJHL). He is another guy we expect to have an impact with our Premier team next season," added DeCaprio.

Last but not least, Mike Paglucca, the goalie of the year in the EHLP Division. Paglucca was arguably the Rangers best player during their perfect 5-0-0 playoff run. Pags, as they call him, won both of his starts during the Round Robin, and then both starts during the EHLP Finals. Combined between the regular season and the playoffs, the Massachusetts native posted a 22-3-1 record with a 2.30 GAA. Pags led the league in both wins and GAA, as well as shutouts, which he record 5 of over the course of the season.

"Mike was a huge key to our success this year. Another returning player that knew what it takes to win. He's got Division I size in net," said DeCaprio.

The EHL would like to congratulate our Stars of the Year from the inaugural season of the EHLP Division!
