Backman, Kany, and Visnick Named 3 Stars of the Week

BOSTON, MA -- Another week checked off and our teams are now set and ready for the 4th showcase of the season. This past week saw 16 of the 17 teams in action in the EHL Division, and plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

We're pleased to announce that Brett Backman (Connecticut Oilers), Samuel Kany (Philadelphia Little Flyers), and Shane Visnick (Hartford Jr. Wolfpack) have been named the EHL Stars of the Week.

Also, this week's EHL Team of the Week is the Boston Jr. Rangers, with Honorable Mentions going out to Kevin LaCroix (New England Wolves) and Nick Donofrio (Philadelphia Revolution).

Brett Backman

Backman and the Oilers swept their weekend set of games, and improved their overall record to 12-14-2 (26 points) for the season. Connecticut continues to lead the way in the Central Division, lining them up for the #2 seed in the South Conference.

  • Friday, December 9th ::: Oilers 5 - Warriors 4 ::: (2g, 1a, 3p)
  • Saturday, December 10th ::: Oilers 6 - Wolfpack 4 ::: (1g, 1a, 1p)

Backman's four-point weekend included the game-winner on Saturday against the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack. The '96 forward now has 25 total points in 25 total games this season, and he'll look to continue to lead his team offensively in their final two games before winter break.

The Oilers face-off with the Wolfpack on Thursday, and the Walpole Express on Monday.

Samuel Kany

Kany and the Little Flyers won both their games this past weekend, and the '96 netminder was between the pipes for the victory on Saturday.

  • Saturday, December 10th ::: Little Flyers 3 - Revolution 0 ::: (32 saves)

Kany's 32-save shutout improves his record to 12-0-1 for the season, to go along with a stellar 1.41 GAA. The native of Phoenix, Arizona is tied for the league-lead in wins with his teammate Joseph Giacobbo, and Vinny Evans of the Boston Bandits.

Kany and Little Flyers have a huge week ahead of them, as they head towards winter break. Philadelphia travels to face-off with the New Jersey Rockets on Wednesday, and then takes on the Northern Cyclones (Saturday) and New England Wolves (Sunday) at the Simsbury Showcase.

Shane Visnick

Visnick and the Wolfpack split their weekend set of games, and now own an overall record of 10-13-2 (22 points) for the season. Hartford is currently in 2nd place in the Central Division, and would be the #6 seed in the South Conference playoffs.

  • Friday, December 9th ::: Oilers 6 - Wolfpack 4 ::: (0g, 2a, 2p)
  • Sunday, December 10th ::: Wolfpack 9 - Applecore 6 ::: (2g, 3a, 5p)

Visnick's seven-point weekend included the game-winner on Sunday against the Applecore. The '96 forward committed to SUNY Brockport earlier this season, and has been tearing things up with 11 points in his last 4 games.

The captain of the Wolfpack has led the way with 29 points so far this season, and he'll look to continue to do so with a big week on the schedule. Hartford hits the ice against the Connecticut Oilers on Thursday, Walpole Express on Friday, and Boston Bandits on Sunday.

EHL Team of the Week

This week's EHL Team of the Week is the Boston Jr. Rangers.

After losing to the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs by the score of 3-1 on Wednesday, the Rangers rallied off 3 straight wins in dramatic fashion.

  • Sunday, December 11th ::: Rangers 3- Lumberjacks 2 SO

Mike McPherson scored the GWG on Friday, Johnny Andrews got the winner on Saturday, and Mike Forman picked up the shootout winner on Sunday.

McPherson, Andrews, and Forman make-up the Rangers top offensive unit, and they tallied a total of 13 points in the 4 games this past week.

Before winter break, the Rangers take on the East Coast Wizards on Wednesday, and the New England Wolves (Saturday) and New York Applecore (Sunday) at the Simsbury Showcase.

Honorable Mention

This week's Honorable Mentions go out to Kevin LaCroix (New England Wolves) and Nick Donofrio (Philadelphia Revolution).
