Wiswell, Vail, and Nilsson Named 3 Stars of the Week

BOSTON, MA -- Another set of games in the books, as the Eastern Hockey League heads towards the final five weeks of the regular season. This past week featured all 17 EHL teams in action and plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

We're pleased to announce that Glenn Wiswell (East Coast Wizards), Mac Vail (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), and Ludvig Nilsson (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) have been named the EHL Stars of the Week.

Also, this week's EHL Team of the Week is the Valley Jr. Warriors, with an Honorable Mention going to the New Jersey Rockets.

Glenn Wiswell

Wiswell and the Wizards won two of their three games this past week, improving their overall record to 14-15-7 (35 points) for the season. The Wizards are currently the #8 seed in the North Conference, with seeds #4 through #8 separated by just eight points.

  • Wednesday, January 25th ::: Lumberjacks 7 - Wizards 2 ::: (2g, 0a, 2p)
  • Friday, January 27th ::: Wizards 4 - Express 1 ::: (0g, 3a, 3p)
  • Sunday, January 29th ::: Wizards 4 - Wolves 1 ::: (2g, 1a, 3p)

Wiswell's eight-point week included the game-winner against the New England Wolves on Sunday. The big offensive outburst for the '96 forward from Maine, moves his season totals up to 33 points in 35 games. Wiswell will look to continue to lead the Wizards when they face-off with the Northern Cyclones on Wednesday, and the New Jersey Rockets on Friday.

Mac Vail

Vail and the Jr. Flyers won all three of their games this past weekend, improving their overall record to 25-8-4 (54 points) for the season. The Jr. Flyers are currently in 2nd place in the Mid-Atlantic Division, which would make them the #3 seed if the South Conference playoffs began today.

  • Friday, January 27th ::: Jr. Flyers 4 - Applecore 1 ::: (23 saves)
  • Saturday, January 28th ::: Jr. Flyers 6 - Oilers 3 ::: (24 saves)
  • Sunday, January 29th ::: Jr. Fyers 8 - Oilers 1 ::: (23 saves)

Vail's three-win weekend moves his record up to 8-8-1 on the season. The '96 netminder from New York is a solid 6-1-2 since heading to Philadelphia from the Connecticut Oilers. Vail will look to continue to anchor his team as they host the Connecticut Nighthawks for a pair of games this weekend.

Ludvig Nilsson

Nilsson was the Jr. Flyers offensive star this past week, as the line of Nilsson, Matthew Manning, and Adam Papayoanou combined for 21 total points in three games.

  • Friday, January 27th ::: Jr. Flyers 4 - Applecore 1 ::: (2g, 1a, 3p)
  • Saturday, January 28th ::: Jr. Flyers 6 - Oilers 3 ::: (1g, 1a, 2p)
  • Sunday, January 29th ::: Jr. Fyers 8 - Oilers 1 ::: (1g, 2a, 3p)

Nilsson's eight-point weekend included the game-winners against the New York Applecore on Friday afternoon and the Connecticut Oilers on Saturday night. The '96 forward from Sweden now has an even 33 points in 33 games for Philadelphia this season.

EHL Team of the Week

This week's EHL Team of the Week is the Valley Jr. Warriors.

The Warriors hot stretch continued as they won all three of their games, increasing their winning streak up to six games.

  • Wednesday, January 25th ::: Warriors 3 - Monarchs 2
  • Saturday, January 28th ::: Warriors 6 - Express 3
  • Sunday, January 29th ::: Warriors 5 - Express 3

Valley's six-game winning streak has stood out for a number of different reasons.

  • Win #1 snapped the Philadelphia Little Flyers point streak at 33 games.
  • Win #2 ended the Boston Jr. Rangers winning streak at 11 games.
  • Wins #3, #4, #5 moved them past the Walpole Express for the top spot in the Boston Division, and helped them gain ground on the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs for 1st place in the North Conference.

The Warriors will look to keep rolling with three road games on the schedule this week. Valley faces-off with the Boston Jr. Rangers on Wednesday, the Monarchs on Friday, and the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack on Sunday.

Honorable Mention

This week's Honorable Mention is going to the New Jersey Rockets.

The Rockets finished off a delayed game with the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and then won three straight contests to improve their record up to 21-16-0 (42 points) for the season.

Just like the Warriors, the Rockets have now won six games in a row and will look to keep their streak intact with three road games on the schedule this week.
