Crotty, Kany, and Struwing Named 3 Stars of the Week

BOSTON, MA -- As we turn the page towards the final week of the regular season, only 18 games remain on the EHL schedule. While a handful of playoff seeds have been finalized, the majority of our first round matchups are left to be determined. This past week featured all 17 EHL Division teams, and plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

We're pleased to announce that Tom Crotty (Connecticut Nighthawks), Samuel Kany (Philadelphia Little Flyers), and Derek Struwing (Valley Jr. Warriors) have been named the EHL Stars of the Week.

Also, this week's EHL Team of the Week is the Philadelphia Little Flyers, with an Honorable Mention award going out to the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.

This afternoon at 4:00pm, we release the next edition of the 19U Elite Stars of the Week.

Our next Premier Stars of the Week will be announced on Tuesday, March 7th at 11:00am.

Tom Crotty

Crotty and the Nighthawks won both of their games this past weekend, ending the regular season with a record of 13-34-1. The Nighthawks are the first team to be finished with their regular season schedule, and they will now look to carry over the momentum of this past weekend into the playoffs.

Crotty's five-point weekend came as a result of the defenseman moving up and playing forward each game for his team. Heading into the weekend, the '96 from South Hadley, Massachusetts had tallied just two assists in 35 games for the Nighthawks. If we're talking percentages, Crotty's big weekend multiplied his points total by 350%.

With the regular season in the books, the Nighthawks will now begin prepping for their first round matchup with the Philadelphia Little Flyers.

Samuel Kany

Speaking of the Little Flyers, after falling in overtime to the Philadelphia Revolution on Wednesday, they picked up a pair of wins this past weekend and claimed their 3rd straight Regular Season Championship.

Kany got the start on Saturday, and entered the game in relief on Sunday. The '96 netminder stood tall over 5 periods between the pipes, stopping all 44 shots that he faced during that time. Kany's numbers only improved this past weekend, as he is now 20-2-2 on the year with a 1.29 GAA and 5 shutouts.

This is Kany's 3rd Star of the Week honor of the season:

The Little Flyers finish off their regular season with three road games this week, starting at the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Wednesday, and then at the New York Applecore on Saturday and Sunday.

Derek Struwing

Struwing the Warriors swept their home-and-home series with the East Coast Wizards, and in doing so, claimed the Boston Division title. By finishing in 1st place in their division, the Warriors therefore guarantee themselves either the #1 or #2 seed when the North Conference playoffs begin. As of today, the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs have a five-point lead and are in control of the top seed, while both teams have three games remaining in the regular season.

Struwing's four-goal weekend included the game-winner on Sunday. The '97 from Illinois has been a solid forward for the Warriors this season, with 17 points in 32 games to date.

Valley ends the regular season with three games this week:

EHL Team of the Week

This week's EHL Team of the Week is the Philadelphia Little Flyers.

Led by Star of the Week honoree Samuel Kany, the Little Flyers picked up five of a possible six points this past week, and claimed their 3rd straight Regular Season Championship.

After three straight losses that came either by way of a shootout or overtime, the Little Flyers finally broke through with a pair of wins this past weekend, setting up a first round matchup with the Connecticut Nighthawks.

Prior to the playoffs beginning Philadelphia finishes off their regular season with three road games this week, starting at the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Wednesday, and then at the New York Applecore on Saturday and Sunday.

Honorable Mention

This week's Honorable Mention award goes out to the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.

The last team with a chance at catching the Little Flyers did everything they could this past weekend, sweeping the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack at Ice Line Quad Rinks.

The Jr. Flyers are locked in as the #3 seed for the first round of the South Conference playoffs, and keep in mind that if they advance, the remaining teams are all combined into one set of league seedings (North and South). If the Jr. Flyers move on from the first round, they will then move up to the #2 seed overall.
