BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) season continued this past weekend with 16 total games from Friday to Sunday. With almost all of the teams in action, there were plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.
The EHL is pleased to announce that Alex Rowella (Connecticut RoughRiders), Christian Dahl (Philadelphia Revolution), and Chris Stangarone (Vermont Lumberjacks) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
Following the weekend action, the game schedule becomes very quiet due to Thanksgiving on Thursday. There are three total games on the schedule next weekend, with the rest of the EHL teams set to return to the ice the first weekend in December. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, December 4th at 4:00pm. Catch the #Eshow action all season long on HockeyTV.
Rowella and the RoughRiders won all three of their games this past weekend, and scored a total of 24 goals. Connecticut's captain had a role in over 50% of the team's tallies, as he racked up 13 total points over the weekend. The '97 from Ridgefield, CT led all EHL scorers with six goals and seven assists, helping to extend his team's winning streak up to four games. With the perfect weekend, the RoughRiders improved to 14-8-1 for the season, and currently hold an 11-point lead over the Connecticut Oilers for the top spot in the Central Division. Rowella will look to stay hot after Thanksgiving when the RoughRiders host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights on Saturday and Sunday.
Dahl and the Revolution collected a pair of victories this past weekend, knocking off the East Coast Wizards on Friday and the Boston Jr. Rangers on Saturday. With the four points, the Revolution increase their season total up to 44, and they maintain their spot at the top of the league standings. Dahl was a key contributor for the Revolution this past weekend, dishing out four total assists in the two games. The big defenseman now has 14 total points for the season, and he'll look to continue to lead his team on the back end when they return to action December 2nd and 3rd against the New York Applecore.
Stangarone and the Lumberjacks were another one the EHL teams collecting sweeps this past weekend, as Vermont defeated the Valley Jr. Warriors twice at home. The '97 was in net for each victory, stopping 45 of the 49 total shots that were sent his way. With the pair of victories, Stangarone is now 11-2-0 on the season with a 1.74 GAA and two shutouts. Vermont's overall record is now 14-6-0, and they find themselves in 2nd place in the New England Division and 4th place in the North Conference. The native of New York will look to continue to anchor his team when they return to action on November 29th against the East Coast Wizards.
This week, the EHL is recognizing a handful of honorable mentions, as this group of players all turned in "star-worthy" performances.
Along with Alex Rowella, Cullen Kane also had a huge offensive weekend for the Connecticut RoughRiders. The '97 increased his season point total up the 42, with four goals and three assists in his team's three games.
The Connecticut Oilers beat the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers two days in a row, each by the score of 4-3 in overtime. In the first game, Olof Djurberg made 41 saves while picking up his 5th win of the season.
While Christian Dahl led the way on the blue line for the Philadelphia Revolution, Bryce Witman continued to provide the offense up front. Witman scored three total goals, including the game-winner on Saturday. The productive weekend moved Witman within one goal of Alex Ochterbeck (Philadelphia Little Flyers) for the league-lead in the EHL.
Speaking of offensive production, Jake Fuss increased his point total up to 38 for the season, with five total points in two games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Fuss is now riding a seven-game point streak into Thanksgiving.
