Niland, Peck, and Egbert Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- We've reached the holiday break in the 2017-18 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) regular season schedule, following the conclusion of the third showcase of the year. The past two days featured all 16 EHL teams in action at Rodman Arena, and plenty of worthy candidates for our final set of weekly honors in 2017.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Larry Niland (Walpole Express), Nick Peck (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights), and Nolan Egbert (Boston Jr. Rangers) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

It's now time for all of our players and coaches to recharge the batteries for the final stretch of the regular season. The EHL action will return on Friday, January 5th, and the next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, January 8th at Noon. Catch the #Eshow action all season long on HockeyTV.

FORWARD - Larry Niland (Walpole Express)

Niland and the Express won all three of their games this past week, including both of their matchups at the December Showcase. The '98 was the offensive catalyst for his team, scoring five times and dishing out a pair of assists in the three contests. Niland's performance also included his first two game-winning goals of the season, as the New York native now has 32 points in 30 total games so far this year. Walpole took an extended break following the Haverhill Showcase, and the 16 days off led to an 8-1-0 record in their last nine games before the holiday break. Niland and the Express will return January 6th and 7th for a pair of matchups with the Vermont Lumberjacks

DEFENSEMAN - Nick Peck (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights)

Peck and the Knights extended their winning streak up to three games with a pair of victories at the December Showcase. The '98 was steady on the blue line, scoring a goal and dishing out a pair of assists in the two games. With the two victories, the Knights improve to their record up to 13-19-0 for the season, as they continue to hold down 3rd place in the Mid-Atlantic Division. As we begin to turn the page over to 2018, it's worth noting that the Knights would be the #4 seed in the South Conference if the playoffs started today. Peck and the Knights will continue their push for the postseason when they return from break to take on the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday, January 7th.

Goaltender - Nolan Egbert (Boston Jr. Rangers)

After taking over the top spot in last week's #Eshow Power Rankings, Egbert and the Rangers held their ground while winning all three of their games this past week. The '97 netminder continued to shine as he picked up wins over the East Coast Wizards on Wednesday, and the Connecticut Oilers on Sunday. Egbert and the Rangers hit the break on an eight-game winning streak, in which they have outscored their opponents 40-15. The New York native is now is now 16-5-0 on the season, to go along with the 2.09 GAA and 2 shutouts. The Rangers will return from break on Sunday, January 7th when they host the Total Athletics Seahawks.

Honorable Mentions - Edgar, Savel, and Ochterbeck

This week, the EHL would like to recognize three players with honorable mentions.

Along with Larry NilandRyan Edgar also had a big week for the Walpole Express. The '98 forward scored a pair of goals and dished out six assists in his team's three games. Edgar now has 25 points in 26 total games, and has at least a point in each of his last eight contests.

The scoring duo of Alex Ochterbeck and Joey Savel continues to lead the EHL and the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Ochterbeck set a new single season record by scoring his 37th goal this past weekend, and Savel hits the break with at least a point in each of his last 18 games. Combined, Ochterbeck and Savel have tallied 131 total points so far this season.
