Avalanche Captain Set to Join Corsairs this Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- Derek Britner, a forward for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to the UMass Dartmouth for the Fall of 2018. The '97 is in his third season in the EHL, and first with the Avalanche. Through his first 36 games this year, Britner has tallied 33 total points, all while serving as the captain for the 1st place team in the North Conference.

"Britner has been great for us this season," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He has really matured on and off the ice, and he is ready to take on college both on the ice and in the classroom. He is a big strong kid and he is going to be a very effective power forward at the next level. I am very excited for him. Coach Noack did a great job recruiting him and I feel Derek is going to make an impact in the MASCAC right away. I wish the Britner family nothing but the best."

The veteran forward has been a true leader for his team this season, as the Avalanche enter today's matchup with the East Coast Wizards with a record of 34-7-3. Britner won the EHL Championship his first year in the EHL, and he took some time to reflect on his decision and thank all of those who helped him along the way.

"I would like to thank the Avalanche organization for a great season so far," said Britner. "I am very thankful for Coach Martiniello for everything that he has done for me over the years to make me the player and helping me be the person I am today. I would also like to thank Coach Cerrella, as he has helped me reach my goal of playing college hockey and helped me understand what its like to be an inspiring student athlete. I want to thank my parents and family for their continued support and helping me achieve my goals. I am very excited to be heading to UMass Dartmouth, and enter the next chapter both on and off the ice. After three seasons in the EHL, I was able to become a better player and get to the next level. The EHL is a great path to college hockey, GO CORSAIRS!"
