Needleman, Wallgren, and Thelvén Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- We're down to the final week of the regular season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). This past week featured 15 intriguing matchups, and many key points were earned across the league. With all 16 teams in action, there were plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Matt Needleman (New England Wolves), Ian Wallgren (Connecticut Oilers), and Jeremy Thelvén (Connecticut RoughRiders) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

The final week of the regular season features 17 more games starting tonight at 8:00pm and running through Sunday. There is action scheduled for every day of the week, as the playoff picture finalizes itself. The final set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, March 5th at 9:00am. Catch the #Eshow action all season long on HockeyTV.

FORWARD - Matt Needleman (New England Wolves)

Needleman and the Wolves won their only game of the week, knocking off the Valley Jr. Warriors by the score of 7-5 on Saturday night. The '98 from St. Albans, VT scored a goal and dished out three assists, helping to earn a big two points for his team. For the year, Needleman now has 42 points to his name, all while having played in all 47 of his team's games. The Wolves need just one more point in order to clinch the 6th and final playoff spot in the North Conference. They will get their first shot at it tomorrow afternoon against the New Hampshire Avalanche and then they will wrap-up the regular season with a home-and-home series against the East Coast Wizards on Friday and Saturday.

DEFENSEMAN - Ian Wallgren (Connecticut Oilers)

Wallgren and the Oilers also hit the ice for just a single game this past week, as they got by the New York Bobcats Royals by the score of 3-2 in overtime on Friday. The '98 was huge for his team as he dished out an assist on their first goal of the afternoon. Later on in the matchup, the puck found Wallgren's stick with some room to shoot, and his bomb from the point ended things in the Oilers' favor. To date, Wallgren now has 30 points in 44 total games for the Oilers. Connecticut is also looking to close out the 6th and final playoff spot in their respective conference (South Conference) as they finish off their regular season schedule with a pair of road games against the New York Applecore at Brewster Ice Arena on Saturday and Sunday.

GOALTENDER - Jeremy Thelvén (Connecticut RoughRiders)

Make it back-to-back weeks for Thelvén, as the Swedish netminder was also tabbed as the top netminder this past Monday (TSR Hockey Stars of the Week #24). This week Thelvén and the RoughRiders swept their weekend series with the Philadelphia Revolution. The '98 was in net for each victory, stopping 51 of the 54 total shots that he faced. Connecticut is perfect in the month of February, as they've won nine in a row, and will wrap-up the regular season with a potential Second Round preview against the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Thelvén and the RoughRiders are the hottest team in the EHL, and they will look to head into their First Round bye ridding a strong momentum wave.

HONORABLE MENTIONS - Panzeca, Ovchinnikov, and Savel

This week the EHL would like to hand out a few Honorable Mentions, starting with Devin Panzeca of the East Coast Wizards. The '97 forward extended his point streak out to 19 games, by racking up four goals and two assists in a pair of matchups. The native of Lake Zurich, IL has three games left in the regular season, to make his final case for the 2017-18 Most Valuable Player award.

Speaking of point streaks, Daniil Ovchinnikov of the Boston Jr. Rangers stretched his out to nine games with a pair of goals and pair of assists against the Wizards on Wednesday. The native of St. Petersburgh, Russia has 56 total points in 47 total games to date.

Last, but not least, Joey Savel of the Philadelphia Little Flyers dished out six assists over the weekend, and broke the mark held by Donny Flynn (2016-17 New Jersey Rockets) for helpers in a season. Flynn had 58 assists this past year, and Savel will look to improve on his 62 to date, in the final two games of the regular season.
