Little Flyers Captain Breaks Single Season Scoring Record

BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) is pleased to announce that Joey Savel of the Philadelphia Little Flyers has been named the 2018 Forward of the Year (FOY). Savel finished the regular season with 96 total points to his name, all while playing in 49 of the 50 regular season games. The Forward of the Year award and all other league honors, are voted on by the coaches in the EHL.

"We are very proud of Joey and everything that he has accomplished," said Little Flyers head coach and general manager George Lewis. "Joey has worked very hard during his entire time in the EHL. As one of our captains and a two-year player in Philly he's given us a lot and we are very grateful for the work he has put in for our program. Obviously being the leading scorer in the league and the Forward of the Year, those are the first two things you think of, but outside of the accolades Utica College is getting a quality young man this Fall. He is going to help their program tremendously."

As Lewis mentioned, the EHL All-Star will be heading to Utica this Fall, and joining one of the top programs at the Division III level. Savel does leave behind an impressive junior career, that sees his name at the top of the Eshow Record Books. The only thing left for Savel to check off before the season ends, is an EHL Championship. The Little Flyers have their sights set on Providence, and in order to get there, they will focus first on the Connecticut RoughRiders this weekend.

The 2nd place finisher for the FOY honor is Chris Peters (Walpole Express) and 3rd place is Blake Harlow (New England Wolves). Tomorrow, the EHL will announce the 2018 Defenseman of the Year (DOY).
