Little Flyers Veteran Takes Home League Honors

BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) is pleased to announce that Nick Magill-Diaz of the Philadelphia Little Flyers has been named the 2018 Defenseman of the Year (DOY). Magill-Diaz finished the regular season as the leader in defensive scoring in the EHL, after racking up 48 points to his name. The Defenseman of the Year award and all other league honors, are voted on by the coaches in the EHL.

“Nick has done an excellent job for us all year," said Little Flyers head coach and general manager George Lewis. "Since day one we knew he would be a special player. He told us one of his individual goals was to be one of the top D in our league and he has done just that. Whether its been 5 on 5, power-play or penalty kill he’s a guy we know we can go to. Obviously his play has spoken for itself, but he’s been a great guy for our room and a great example as a '97. We’re very proud of Nick on winning this award, and with a lot of excellent defensemen throughout our league, this is pretty special.”

The native of Clawson, MI played in all 50 games in the regular season, and racked up a solid five game-winning goals in that time. It's not just all offensive numbers for Magill-Diaz, as the '97 matched up frequently against some of the top forwards in the EHL. After sweeping the Connecticut Oilers in the First Round of the EHL Playoffs, Philadelphia is now set to take on the Connecticut RoughRiders with a trip to Providence on the line.

The 2nd place finisher for the DOY honor is Christian Dahl (Philadelphia Revolution) and 3rd place is James Zanca (New Hampshire Avalanche). Tomorrow, the EHL will announce the 2018 Goaltender of the Year (GOY).
