Oilers All-Star Defenseman Set to Join Cardinals this Fall

HAMDEN, CT -- Ian Wallgren, a defenseman for the Connecticut Oilers, has committed to SUNY Plattsburgh for the Fall of 2018. In his first season in the EHL, the '98 notched 32 points in 47 total games on the blue line.

"Ian is a big, mobile defenseman, and has taken big steps forward this year," said Oilers head coach and general manager Karl Linden. "As one of the captains of the first year program, Ian has done a nice job of leading the CT Oilers to a successful first season."

Wallgren was truly a leader for the Oilers this season, serving as the team's representative on the EHL All-Star Team that took on the UMass Boston Beacons back in October. The native of Sweden was rock solid in that game, and he took some time to reflect and look back.

"I am proud to announce my commitment to continue my hockey career at Plattsburgh State University," said Wallgren. "The coaching staff, campus, and the hockey program at PSU is the perfect fit for me. I would like to thank my coaches Karl Linden & Pete McLean for helping my dream to play college hockey come true and opening a whole new opportunity towards the next step in my hockey career. I can't wait to play some Cardinal hockey."
