WALPOLE, MA -- Pat Twombly, a defenseman for the Walpole Express, has committed to UMass Dartmouth for the Fall of 2018. Twombly spent the 2016-17 campaign with Walpole in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), and then made the jump up to the EHL this past season. In 46 total games this past year, Twombly racked up 11 points to his name, including a game-winner from the blue line.
“Pat is a true testament of the EHL and EHLP programs we have here at the Express," said Express head coach and general manager Jon Lounsbury. "He came in as a member of the EHLP team, worked hard, bought-in, and developed into an EHL player. It is no surprise he is now heading off to UMass Dartmouth in the Fall. He has worked hard for it.”
While the season ended sooner than Twombly and the Express had hoped, it was another very solid campaign for Walpole. The '97 defenseman got stronger as the year went on, and was a key factor in his team reaching the Second Round of the EHL Playoffs. Looking back on his time with the Express, Twombly is very grateful.
"I'd like to thank the Walpole Express organization, Coach Lounsbury, and Coach Polino for a great two years." said Twombly. "I would also like to thank my friends and family who have helped me along the way. I'm looking forward to continuing my studies and hockey career at UMass Dartmouth."
When Twombly arrives on the campus of UMass Dartmouth, he will be joined by a very strong class of incoming Freshmen. That class includes the following EHL players from the 2017-18 season:
Blake Harlow (New England Wolves)
Derek Britner (New Hampshire Avalanche)
Melker Kroon (New Hampshire Avalanche)
Jimmy Pelton (Valley Jr. Warriors)
Chris Stangarone (Vermont Lumberjacks)
Austin Smith (Walpole Express)
