Rangers Captain Set to Join Hounds this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Jared Bernis, a defenseman for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to Assumption College for the Fall of 2018. The '97 from Melrose, MA won the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) Championship with the Rangers back in the 2015-16 season, and then spent the previous two years with the Rangers at the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) level. Through 102 career games in the EHL, Bernis racked up 55 total points to his name.

"We are very proud of Jared and his accomplishment to play hockey at Assumption College," said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "When he came to us four years ago, he was just like any defenseman at his age. His work ethic and determination allowed him to develop into the player he is today. When I think of one word to summarize him, it's 'Warrior.' His compete level is superior. He's going to have a great four years at Assumption and I can't wait to watch him play."

Bernis built a strong reputation amongst the coaches in the EHL, as a player who would make you work for every puck. The 5'9 defenseman played bigger than that both offensively and defensively. Bernis took some time to look back and reflect on his time with the Rangers.

"I am very excited to continue my academic and athletic careers at Assumption College," said Bernis. "I am grateful for the experience that I have had with the Rangers program for the past four years. Coach DeCaprio and Coach Blair have been mentors to me on and off the ice and have helped me develop into the player I am today. I'd like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for pushing me to be a better player and person on and off the ice."
