TEWKSBURY, MA -- Jake Cagnina, a forward for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to Becker College for the Fall of 2018. The '97 from South Berwick, ME played in 52 of 55 games this season for the Rangers, racking up 16 points over the course of the year.
"We are very happy for Jake on his commitment," said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "He's the perfect example of what it means to be a great teammate. His size and work ethic allowed him to improve a ton this year. He was the glue in our locker room. Jake is a great kid and he earned this opportunity to play college hockey."
Cagnina was a key piece for a Rangers' team that was filled with great depth from top to bottom. While Cagnina's name isn't at the top of the scoring charts, his impact was definitely felt in each and every matchup. As DeCaprio mentioned, Cagnina was the "glue" that kept the group together. The future Hawk really enjoyed this past season with the Rangers, and took some time to give his thanks.
"I had a great year with the Rangers, and loved coming to the rink and working with the guys everyday," said Cagnina. "I learned a lot from Coach DeCaprio and Coach Blair. I can't thank them and my teammates enough. Playing in the EHL and playing for the Rangers provided me with a great opportunity and exposure to colleges from all over, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice to attend Becker College."
While the Rangers season ended sooner than they had hoped, Cagnina and the rest of his team can be very proud of all that they accomplished throughout the year. Cagnina has a bright future ahead of him, and it will be fun to see him line up against some of his junior teammates when they kick-off their collegiate careers. One teammate in particular who he'll definitely matchup with is Damien Dangueuger, as the former captain is heading to Western New England University and the two will do battle in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
