Warriors Forward Set to Join Lancers this Fall

HAVERHILL, MA -- Brian Smith, a forward for the Valley Jr. Warriors, has committed to Worcester State University for the Fall of 2018. The '97 played the past two seasons in the Warriors program, spending a year apiece at both the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) levels. This past season in particular, Smith racked up 26 points in 40 games in the EHL.

"Brian is a tenacious player on the puck,” said Warriors head coach and general manager Andy Heinze. “If he loses it from a back check he’ll stop hard and go after it hard instead of making a big loop. He’s a very competitive, and he's always had the ability to score; he did that this year for us."

Two seasons ago during the 2016-17 campaign, Smith played the entire year for the Warriors' EHLP team. The native of Dracut, MA was one of the top scorers in the league that season, racking up 68 points in 41 games. All in all, Smith is very happy with the two years he spent with the Warriors, and he took some time to look back on his experience.

"My time with the Warriors was incredible," said Smith. "I learned so many things and developed as a player so much over the past two years. Coach Heinze and Coach Tabb were big influences and great teachers of the game for me. Playing in the EHL against great competition game in and game out pushed me to always need to be at the top of my game. It has all helped to allow me to get to the next level."
