Warriors Defenseman Joins Growing List of Future Wildcats

HAVERHILL, MA -- Matt Gulack, a defenseman for the Valley Jr. Warriors, has committed to Johnson and Wales University for the Fall of 2018. The '98 from Richboro, PA spent time with both the Warriors and the East Coast Wizards this past season, tallying six assists in 24 total EHL games.

“He’s a good player; Johnson and Wales will get a player that has the skill and ability to be very successful at their level,” said Warriors head coach and general manager Andy Heinze.

Gulack is heading to a program that has recruited players from the EHL ever since the league was formed back in 2013. Gulack is the 20th EHL player to commit to join the Wildcats, and he's one of four from the 2017-18 season. When he arrives on campus, he will be joined by Austin Withycombe of the New York Applecore, and Bryan Colburn and Zach D'Amico of the Walpole Express. Gulack is looking forward to being a part of the incoming freshmen class at JWU, and he took some time to reflect on the journey.

“Playing in the EHL was a great experience," said Gulack. "There were always college coaches watching our games. The coaching I got from Coach Heinze really helped me develop into a better defenseman. This season in the EHL really helped me become better on and off the ice, and really prepared me to go to college and become a student-athlete. I would like to thank my teammates, my coaches, my advisor Will McNally, my trainer Phil Meade, and everyone in my family, especially my parents! Thank you Coach LaCour for this opportunity to play hockey and get a great education. I can’t wait to attend JWU and be a Wildcat!”
