Rangers Goaltender Set to Join Panthers in January

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Ben Parker, a goaltender for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to Plymouth State University (PSU) for this upcoming January.

The '98 will join the Panthers for the 2nd half of the season, and is a prime example of the league's ladder of development. Parker spent 1 season (2016-17) with the Rangers at the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) level, and then 2 seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19) on the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) team. From the EHLP, to the EHL, to NCAA hockey, Parker has earned this opportunity.

“We are so happy for Ben. This is a great opportunity for him that just fell into place at the right time,” said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio, “He’s not only a great goalie, but one of the best teammates and high-character individuals that I’ve ever had the privilege of coaching throughout my 16 years. He’s earned this opportunity, 100%.”

In his first season of junior hockey, Parker led the Rangers' EHLP team to the finals, all while posting a 2.34 GAA in 17 games that year. The native of Ashland, MA then advanced to EHL level for the 2017-18 season, where he started 14 games and maintained a seller 2.08 GAA along with a .932 save percentage. Finally this year, Parker has collected a pair of wins along with a GAA of 2.55. All in all, Parker has put together a solid junior career and took time to reflect on his time with the Rangers.

“The last two and a half years with the Boston Jr. Rangers has been phenomenal,” said Parker. “The coaching staff helped me develop tremendously on the ice as a hockey player and off the ice as a person. I could not have asked to be part of a better junior hockey program.”

The Rangers have a busy schedule through the holidays, with 10 games between now and when Parker sets off for PSU. The stretch begins tomorrow night as the Rangers take on the North Carolina Golden Bears for the first time in franchise history.
